deep working hb's

a question about hb's,

I'm not a fan of sp's and have fished hb's all my life. problem is is that,

a) I can't cast out far enough to a decent structure or
b) I can't work around a deep structure slow or deep enough with these tiny bloody lures.

is there any hb's out there that would work as I don't want to have to swich to sp's

and if it isnt u line maybe its ur rod and or reel combonation.....
i had a cheapo rod and now i got a stella and i still have a dodgy reel but the rod changes evrything and i can cast unweighted SPs a fare way.
So u could amagine casting HBs.

IM not sure how deep your talking but ive done alright on a manns stretch 10+,or even 5+'s,oar-gees wee-pee and pee-wees,taylor made belly busters and predatek b65d boomerang.

It seems the deeper you go the more balls bream have as they dont mind bigger HB'S..

Not always the case though.

Will..

I cant really see a baitcaster helping you out here... mind you, Samurai will prolly disagree with me on that one!
Id say 4lb fireline will help a lot in terms of casting difference. Try the Tilsan lures. They are great deep divers.

Howdy

I know what u mean by 'tiiiny'. The first time I saw a yozuri snap shad i was like 'woah..'. These small ones like sneaky scorps are abit iffy to cast and I think line class really is important. Ah and one other thing, are u using mono? 6 lb mono would really give u a hard time, get down to 4lb fireline and watch them whizz thru the air. Use a low profile leader knot and u should be fine.

I think a baitcaster would cause u more strife as they kinda suck casting small weights (i reckon anyway).

Check out the r2s sheds, they are huge and have nice weight. The Taylor Made deep diving is also good apparently and gets down there. About working the lures slow enough, umm, try tweaking the weight so it'd float slower if its a floating lure?

Corey mentioned that with the r2s u can cast it in a way that it flies straight with the end pointing in one direction like a torpedo. Dont know much about this myself but I'v heard of this before...and apparently it gives u huge casting distance as there'l be less frontal surface area slowing it down

Yeah casting lures in a way that gets the tail first is the key to long casts. My homemades which are REALLY light, if cast perfectly, will fire through the air for ages!
You can cast the R2S's a mile with the wind on your back and the tail pointing straight!

Hi Ado, I'm a big fan of baitcasters even for ultra light lure, but I agree with Dave on this one, a baitcaster is not your answer.

Your first prob is pretty simple (if your fishing from a boat) just get closer, you won't spook the fish that much.

As for getting hard bodys deep, I'm not really a fan of softs but they do come into their own on deep snags ect, other wise try small Rio prawn lures, they cast well and sink.

Cheers Samurai
