the obvious answer is when the fish are down deep as most bream lures wont go down over 4 metres or so.

the other time is when the fish are sluggish and not keeo to chase a lure. softies being able to be fished slower than a hb can literally sit in the fishes face and annoy him till he eats it.

hope this helps but there are no hard and fast rules, he who thinks outside the square, wins the tournament

Hi QA

my rules are simple. Put the lure in front of the fishes nose, once thats sorted then choose HB or softies. You just need to know where they are holding in the water column. Use a sounder or maybe even visual in clear water. I prefer softies and fish them at all depths, even shallow and if the fish want a HB and I have one that runs at the right depth then I'll put it on.

Yep - softies can often get to where hardbodies cant in (on the water surface wise), like try skipping a hardbody under some kind of platform, with softies u can skip em and they can get well under there whilst hardbodies are abit more difficult.

Softies also give u more confidence in getting it into teeenny weeny spaces, losing a 50c jig isnt as painful as a $12 lure

Hardbodies on the other hand lets u work flats and shallow areas better and floating ones let u fish snaggy places where softies cant go (like fishing ontop oyster racks)
