Advice needed

Bit of a Noob question but being predominately a LB and Yak Angler I spend a lot of time fishing Jetty and wharf pylons. Do well on Vibes and Placcies but i am still struggling with Suspending and Floating Hardbods in these environments.

Often Bream are hanging higher in the water column but i am unabale to tempt them regularly. I usually start at one end of the jetty and bring by lure back slowly past all the pylons pausing regularly.

I use a heap of different brands sx40's, Chubby's, Crackjacks etc etc but am yet to get any reasonable results other than the occasional and I mean occasional Bream.

Can anyone give me some tips for this type of environment?

maybe try a bit more of an aggressive twitch/rip around the pylons,you want them to think the bait/lure is injured not just cruising around ,using a sinking stick minnow with a few rips added to the sink will show you what i mean when applied to the other lures.

Thats strange i would have thought you would have had more success with what you are doing.

I can't offer much but to say thats its well known Snapper are not actively feeding when they are high in the water column, maybe where you fish you are having more luck lower in the column with your Vibes etc because they are feeding lower ?

If theres tidal flow sometimes the bream will only hit the lure going in one direction,Steve Morgan has used this to great effect in Tourns and will try both ends of a bridge to see how the bream are taking the lures that day.

The huge disadvantage of kayaks is while we can hold position facing into the current (with Hobies) we do not have an electric motor to hold position the other way.

Only other thing i can think of is use 100% fluro as your line might be spooking them as it travels over head or use a real long leader.

Thanks Mate. I'm already using a longer leader. Pretty clear water at the moment so probably spooked as well. Will try a bit more aggressive with a few more rips and twitches i think. I have one spool with 100% fluro so might give that a go to.

I'm thinking Shorty is onto something.. I often sound good sized fish higher in the water column near pylons but very rarely get a strike from them, however they are happy to hit a lure at the bottom. Maybe they feel a bit safer to feed deeper down..

Try using small sinking HBs (Scorpions 35mm or similar).

I caught a few fish in docklands under the pylons land based lont time ago (before I bought my first boat).

The best to fish them very early before the sunrise and to let them sink for a couple of metres before starting the retrieve (twitch / pause)

The colour I mostly used was R5 Firefin. Jelly prawn looks like a good colour (but at the time RMG Halco didn't produce them).

rip and jerk and hang it in there faces so they sit there and look at it and cant help but hit it rather then just watch it swim past and have no interest in it tiemco stick minnows are perfect around pylons so r the new strike pro ones just work them like a sp and scent it up
