stratos 186 xt

Budget bream rig or nightmare waiting to happen?

These are cheap, simple, large (18'9") reasnoble storage a 115 max HP, look ok and on paper look to be a good option.

Does anyone have one, any one got any thoughts?

I am seriously thinking of getting one of these with a 115 opti on the back for the bream tournies(70%) and rec fishing(20%) a small amount of family boating (fishing with the kids10%)

Would like some feedback from you guys.

Depends on the one you are looking at, but they are a great little boat, got everything you need.
www.boattest.com I think may have done a test on it, worth while looking at.
Can't go wrong with a stratos.
Price?
Age of boat?
You may get some better answers.

I have been qouted roughly thirt k for a new one, seems to good to be true so just after any thoughts you guys have.
I know that they arnt the fastest but it should be on par with the skeeter sx 170 (51.6MPH) and the deck is substantualy bigger.
it falls into the catogory of what i can afford rather than what i realy want but also has enough room to move around on and allows some room in the budget for sounders and the like.
Was hoping somone could shed some light as to its handeling and the finer points of operating it.
Like does it have tilt and trim on the console, how does she go in the chop etc etc.
Thanks guys

Have you spoken to the owners/shop about taking it for a test drive? Like all things that go fast...care is needed and you need to learn how to drive boats at high speed...actually any speed.
If you can't find much information locally, search the american bass forums, i'm sure there would be plenty of information on handling and such like over there.

Cheers
Dion.

Have a look over in the states as well mate. You can pick up a lot nicer boats over there for around the same price landed in Aus, with the way the dollar is at the moment.

there good mid range boats but not quick by any means,
there really stable at rest too.

just a couple of points look at a 90 opti and use a thing called a 125 up grade, changes the computer settings and they howl

i was looking at doing the same thing but im thinking of leaning to a nitro 640lx with a 90 opti and doing the upgrade.

also worth looking at some of the triton boats too.

cheers
Boris

Some more researching has come across some interesting figures,
I found a test for etec on the stratos 186 xt that had top speed as 51.3 mph,
Another etec test for 150 on a ranger 188vx had top speed of 57.9.
So am I confused, yes i am.
Just for comparison does any one have a 18foot nine inch or similer hull with a 150 on it, if so what top spped do you have.
Also any one running a 115 can you let me know your top speed.
Everyone says this is a slow boat but it looks just as fast as skeeters running the same outboard.

Keep in mind i coould get a second hand sx 170 with a 115 on it for about 35-38k at the moment or a new stratos 186xt that i actualy bigger and has more storage for $31000
What would you do?

Did the ranger have a jackplate and the stratos didn't have one?

I've got a zx190 (19 footer) with a 150h.o etec. have had it up to 64mph with the setup it came with. Gona toy around with heights and props and should get some more out of it.
