Opinions required from Daiwa junkies

Hi All,

I am in the process of buying another breaming reel and after all the reading about Daiwa and how awesome they are I want to get one.

Now I know people love to spend mega dollars on breaming gear (not me) and if I ask what do people suggest they will start saying Certates, Luvi's etc etc....

But I have done some research and have narrowed it down to 2 reels they are as follows -

Daiwa Exceler TSH-DA 2000
Daiwa Tierra 2000

I am a Shimano man and have never owned any Daiwa reels but want to give them a crack.

The other thing is I know people will say get a secondhand SOL or the like but I like buying new so these are my options.

Everyones thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

hey buddy. I’m a daiwa fan 2, but in the lower end reels shimanos feel much nicer. Have you considered a stradic C14? (noted that your after a daiwa, but i would only suggest a mid to high range daiwa)

My 1000 C14 is an awesome reel. Its sooooo nice and smooth and the drag is fantastic! Its light and have never had a problem with it.

Again I know you don’t want a second hand reel, but a well looked after second hand reel (sol) is better than a brand new Tierra.. JMO

got a couple of stradics and love em but wanted to get a Daiwa, no specific reason really just so I can say I have one I guess. If I am spending $200 roughly I would have thought that it should be decent enough. I have a couple Seido 1000 and love them and they are definately in the cheap end.

I have landed 5kg+ snapper with the little Seido's and they keep going so I kind of presumed the Daiwa gear should be similar??

Yeah my cuz has a Seido 1000 spooled with 6lb fins braid and he fishes for gummies in western port with it!!! I tell him he is crazy but the reel has held up and despite being spooled a few times he has never had any problems with it. And he absolutely beats the living day lights out of that reel. Its covered in salt crust and pilchard scales.

In saying that any daiwa or shimano is built with a reasonable level of quality so you cant really go wrong.

Infeet 2004 is about $199. I'm not sure if the new Infeet 2004 is released locally in Aus yet but they're supposed to be quite good also.
I've never fished with a Tierra but they feel pretty good from what i've checked out at tackle stores.
I've got a 2000 Sol that i mainly use - no complaints here

for that price i would be going with an infeet 2004 but the tierra is a nice reel. IMO, if you do get a daiwa reel, i would suggest getting a tournament drag kit to put through it, it makes any of the daiwas much better to use.

Freeams kix 2000.

Almost a sol. Miles stronger than the tierra/infeet bodies and easier to service etc.

Under 170 bucks if you look around on aus based online shops.

Daiwa Kix freams?

Same frame as the Sol. Cheaper then the Tierra at $160-$180 RRP for Australia. The rest can go towards some braid to spool it with.

Should be good, but not having used it.
I can't tell you any personally preferences.
I had a feel of one, they are smooth for what you pay.

Might be worth having a look at.

I have just looked into the Infeet and they look very nice and have similar specs to the Exceler TSH and Tierra.

With regard to the Exceler TSH-DA, they seem to be a fairly new reel. As this is not the normal Exceler DA, the normal Exceler retails for about $150 whereas as this model is around the $200-$210 mark.

Does anyone know what the difference is?

What he said straight up Good reels for a cool price... Pretty sure they only had 1 less bearing than the sol from memory..

These TSH Da appears to have a higher ratio in the gears 6.2:1 compared to about 5.2:1 in the standard Excellor and Tierra and sol.
Not sure what other differences there are.
