cant crack the code properly

well i have given hards a go for bream for a while now using deep, med, shallow divers, short, long, fat, skinny, surface walkers, poppers, sinking stick minnows. i have caught a few small ones but cant figure a retrive to get the big ones to hit.

can someone please help me, i fish medium to shallow flats 30cm- 1.5m, rock walls, timber, boat houses, boats, weed, cliffs.

any help would be very appreciated. cheers mitch

retrive slowly, allow plenty of time for your lure to float back towards the surface before you dive again.

As you lure ascends, make sure you quietly and carefully take the slack out of your line so you can feel the lure.

Most of the bigger bream in my area will hit the lure on the pause as it slowely floats back up. It hard to detect if you dont have the right amount of line tension.

first post!!!
cos i live in the lower reaches of the swan river in Perth, fishing with sp is pretty much impossible in summer due to the healthy blowie population. therefore, i pretty much exclusively fish hb. Over the weedbeds and shallow flats, i love using shallow diving jerkbaits such as mx48's and smith luna's. Fish with an aggressive retrieve with small sharp rips of the rod. When fishing boat sheds and cliffs, i like a slow sinking vibe with a lot of rattle such as the lucky craft bevy vibe just hopping the lure slowly just off the bottom (however it depends on how deep and what the current is like at ur location). Around rock walls and timber, small floating or suspending diving crankbaits are good, with sx40's being a great starting point. Just a very slow constant wind will almost always produce.

hope this helps

Location and time of year has a lot to do with it,if you have only tried for a few months i think you will find it picks up as the weather warms up over summer,a slow roll with a few pauses is a good place to start and should be varied if he fish are in a different mood also low light periods help as well.
cheers nereus

When you're using a suspendind lure crank it down give it a bit of a wiggle and let it sit there for a few seconds and then give it a fast wind and repeat the pattern

what exact lures are you using and what colour say tell us your best three lures are so we can get a feel for the gear your using.
I only ask because when i first started i couldnt bear to pay 20-30$ for a lure and brought some s&*! lures that i was wasting my time with.

and coulour is important dont let anyone tell you otherwise!

Not sure what area you are in, but it really gives you a head start to hook up with one of the guys on here who have been doing it for a while, know the area, have fished tournaments etc.. A lot quicker than the trial and error method of teaching yourself!

time of day can be an issue for big bream in some busy areas.
get up super early and fish the first light, stealth is important also.approach your chosen spots very quietly.
