Save a bit more money ($40) and you can go for a Diawa Samurai 7i 1500. This was my first Bream reel and i found it great. it has a nice smooth drag, 3 ball bearings and comes at a really good price for first timers.
Or you could go for the Regal X 1500C by Diawa this looks like a really nice reel but it comes in at $99.00 on the online store. If you want a reel thats going to last i would pay just that little bit extra and go for something around the $100-150 mark.
Just check out the online store for any others that might tickle ya fancy

chears, Nathan

I bought an Okuma Fina FA30 last season for $50 and it's been fantastic. Takes the knocks and can handle the light stuff through to the heaviest. It's a great starter reel and if looked after will be around for years.

Yup, agree with Bear, the Okumas are good. You can always pay a bit extra and get an Avenger 15 or 20. And you get there 5 year warranty

The Samurai 7i actually has 7 bearings. The 3i version has 3 bearings.
I own a samurai and i got to say...im not real impressed by it. I'd go the Okuma!

for $50
U'll have to look at the non-premium brands like Jarvis walkers and surecatch. I guess for $50 the Okuma Fina is the best value. Other wise pay $20 more for the Avenger 15.

Check out campbells protackle and see wat's available for ur budget.

I bought a Shimano JHX 2000 from KMart for $53, bloody ripper little reel.
Be a bit wary of the Diawa Samurai 7i, good reel but designed for FRESHWATER, seen a few and they don't handle saltwater too well, and Diawa won't tell ya till the warranty claim goes in (and is denied).

Freshwater fishing magazine is currently running a promo: a year subscription and Okuma Fina FA30 reel for approx. 80 bucks. I reckon its a pretty good value package.

The cupons are inside the mag.

Cheers,
Alex
