Working the Surf Gutters

Squidgies in surf??? Ive never tried them, but Id like to know your thoughts/suggestions on working in them in the surf. Some Big bream can be landed in close on Sydney's Northern Beaches (Wale Beach, one of my faves). Would you recommend retrieval or let the squidgy "bounce" in the wash?

I guess the answer lies in the old "whatever works". Any experiences out there?
