knot nerd

hi guys,
just been sitting on the couch with some 30lb braid and a bit of 30lb fluro going through a few different knots. i wanna find which knot i can tie that has the smallest profile in order to travel through the guides on my rod and get some longer casts with no knot-knocking.
i tied them pretty sweet and i found that the albright knot was the thinnest profile knot that i could tie. the double uni, slim beauty and twisted leader knot all had a larger profile. which surprised me, especially the slim beauty.
anyway, my question is, what knot do you guys use for your larger classes of line?
i found with bream weight gear that all my knots turned out small so were never an issue.
and can anyone suggest any other low profile knots that i can try. i think i might just stick with the albright, strong, easy to tie and nice and neat

cheers in advance
nagz

if for no other reason than learning to tie more knots learn the FG knot and the PR knot. there is no lower profile knot. but i reckon given enough practice i could tie a FG knot in about 5 mins but doing it in 6lb braid is hard

Tying them while fishing is a pain in the arse, but being a knot nerd myself i couldn't have a knot out there i wasn't able to tie.

I also tie decorative knots for something to do out of paracord.

i have about 10 monkey fists floating around my loungroom for the cats to play with.

IMO, the only knots to use if you are casting the knot through the guides on heavier lines (20 lb and up) is the FG knot. takes a while to get a hang of but well worth it in the end. other knots along the same lines are the mid-knot, the PR knot or the Sebile knot.

Please note: these knots only work well on braid to mono connections and not so well on braid to fluoro connections. they rely on biting into the mono to grip and because fluoro is so hard it cant do it properly and slips prematurely.

hi guys,
after heaps of knot tying sessions in front of the telly, it looks like the albright knot will be my go to knot for 3olb braid and leader of 20-30lb.
will keep experimenting on diff classes with diff knots.
i was always led to bellieve the slim beauty was the lowest profile, but it doesnt seem to be so, the double over hand knot adds a lot of bulk to the knot in comparison to the simple doubling over of the leader in the albright know.

good fun tying knots nonetheless

cheers

if your going to use it for repeated casting get some UV Knot Sense

It will protect the knot and help stop the tag from catching

I use a albright on my 4-6lb braid to 4-8-10lb leader, for my 15lb braid to 25-30lb leader i use a double uni but it hits my guides alot. Maybe i should try a albright on that too hmmm
