daiwa 'special' models

got me thinking the other day when i saw the new (cheaper) gekk and emeraldas models.
they have kind of lost their appeal to me now they are making them from a cheaper platform. sorta makes them not so special any more.....
not saying they arnt good reels or anything, i would have been really happy if i could buy those for that money when i started breaming and didnt have the cash for a expesive reel, but when they first came out they were modified 'top of the range' magnesium bodied reels, they were much more desirable and exclusive. now it just seems they've tainted that reputation.
i mean, how good would a exist/steez based gekk or emma be!?
having said that, i havnt heard they have dis-continued the zaion bodied gekk and emma, so does that mean they now have 2 gekkabijins and 2 emeraldas' ???

i can see why they have done it, reels that have all these good features and look good at a cheaper price will be a very good seller.

what does everyone else think???

Emeraldas and Gekkabijin are not necessarily just "special" reel models. Emeraldas covers all the Squid stuff by Daiwa and Gekkabijin covers "light salt game" mostly rockfish and yakka stuff they do. There has always been a huge array of lures, lines and rods under these banners

Ipso facto these two new reels come under those banners only at a lower price point.

i realise that, but they could have given them a different name.
they did for the e-gee, that was a 'eging special' just like the emeraldas.

there is a Real Four Gekka, i just don't know if it's a R4 proper or just fits the RCS Spools.
i think its the upgraded version of the older Saltist gekka, with the lower ratio gearing. Certainly not cheap, but its bloody light.

Also there are now like 4 gekkas! Or at least the same styles, the infeet, the MX, the saltist, and the one rocksy posted

yeah fluoro straight THROUGH is pretty good for the old breams...

On topic, I can see what you mean, but as you also said, its great that the cheaper options allow people who may not be able to afford the more expensive reels to buy one of the better reels for a cheaper price. Sure they may not be as good as the originals, but theyre still good and still look awesome.

I would buy a steez if it cost 200 bucks but wasnt as smooth as the 600 dollar version, as long as it was still a nice reel and still looked awesome. It wouldnt be as awesome as the original, but hey, a good real is a good real in the end, regardless of prestige

yeah, i hear what your saying G factor, it is great they have made these reels more affordable. but i was so dissapointed when the infeet came out and it was just a tierra? based reel! still not a bad reel but not the same as the old airity based one.
ive got 2 of the old saltist gek's and love them, but if i bought a new one it wouldnt be the MX or infeet. big backwards step!
i still cant work out why daiwa aust didnt bring in the zaion bodied gek....oh well

my definition of awesome transcends all basic understandings of the term...it would be a futile attempt to try to define it, but I will try to.

When I say awesome, it doesnt take much for something to be awesome. It can just be something that just "works", as in, it just fits together. If the reel looks good, and it performs well, and as a package it just seems to be right, Ill usually call it awesome. Dont think about it too much though, its just my way of trying to express my opinion that something thats rehashed, either for better or for worse, can still be great.

( thanks for pointing out that I pretty much repeated myself a couple of times in my last post, didnt realize I used the term awesome that much...haha)

Yep the reel 4 version is basically a Luvias body, rotor, custom 4.4 gear CRBB, 40mm handle and absr spool ... I went metallic grey on mine.
