SOL 3000 vs Stradic CI-4 4000?
hey guys, smack bang in the prime of snapper season and i'm looking for a new snapper reel and am comparing the two above mentioned reels. i'm looking for opinions from people who have owned either (or both) of these reels. Which is the better buy and why? smoothness, drag, weight, gearing all comes into it. any advice, pro's or con's of both would be appreciated.

Baits or lures? If you're bashing lures around throw the Bream gear in the boat and have either the Sol or Stradic as back up incase your arms get sore with a short butt and big fish.
If bait, just get a Baitrunner

nah mate, plastics, lures. but also fresh baits, ocky jigs etc. so it has to be useable for plastics etc too. but i'd find these questions more applicable to the rod rather than the reel.
if i was after a bait reel i'd be looking at either a Thunnus or a Baitrunner D series

I use a 4000 twin power for snapper and it feels perfect for SP's on snapper.
I was after a CI4 stradic 4000 also but couldn't get one when my sister was overseas so I settled for a 4000 stradic FI. The FI stradic looks like it was made in the same mold as the twin power. It's not quite as smooth as the TP but more then good enough for most situations. I reckon if you go for the daiwa I'd go the 3000 as it's heaps lighter then the 4000. |

I'd go for a Stradic Ci4 3000, I have a JDM Twinpower 4000PG and it's a "light" bait combo (when you compare it to baitrunners and penn spinfishers). It seriously is overkill on 5kg snapper, can get them to the boat within a minute with the reel, its so smooth and powerful. I'd say for plastics a 2500 or 3000 shimano or daiwa, 4000 is just overkill, and its fun to give the snapper a fighting chance when catching them on plastics. Between the SOL and the Ci4, I'd go for the Ci4, the Ci4 had strong cold forged gears that are extremely durable, the SOL will start to get rough after a year or two (assuming you do well during the snapper season). The Ci4 is also proven to be a bloody strong reel, since they even use the Ci4 material on surf reels and up to 6000 sized reels.

For bigger fish I'd want large diameter gears that are durable and tough, but shimano or daiwa 2500-3000 is enough for snapper, 4000 is way to bulky. Last edited by DaiwaFreak; 13-11-2010 at 10:16 AM. |

I agree with the 4000 being to big.
They are good if your on a hot bite and you want to get the fish up quickly but for sport they are very gutsy. I use a Caldia Kix 2000 for snapper and I started using a 2500 luvias at the end of last season. This season I'm going to give my Stradic 2500 CI4 a crack as well. I like the faster retrieve of the stradic. |

I use daiwa 2500R hyper and certate 3000 sized reels for snapper and jew fishing, MUCH nicer than the 4000 sized sustain i used to use..
imo go the SOL 3000 mate or if you can cough up some more cash get a certate they dont dissapoint

Definately go with a 3000 size Shimano for snapper mate, no bigger. Ive got a 3000 Saros and its the perfect size. Still pulls hard but does give them a fighting chance so keeps it fun.
I landed a 22lb Cobia on my 3000 Saros in Broome last month so since then im convinced i dont need anything bigger. 3000 CI4 would be perfect.
