I must be doin _something_ wrong

went around the swan earlier this week, could manage to get anything going with sp (bassmaster as well as some random ones my friend picked up). Once i threw in bait, instant hookup.... whats up with that?

I've been casting into and around the structures and stuff..... managing slow retrieval without any luck... any suggestions?

ahhhhh just as I thought man, you are fishing WAY too heavy. Your probably not doing anything wrong but with that gear a bream would hit it at the moment and you wouldn't even feel a thing.

With bream on plastics in cold water you have to be able to feel the hits as the bream only just take the shortest bites.

I fish a light 2 kilo Strudwick rod (try to fish something atleast around 2 to 4 kilo) which gives me great feel, 4lb fireline braid down to a 6lb mono vanish leader and I'm still landing good fish on it.

Go lighter dude........

couldnt agree more.
Paulic and some of us others use 4lb leaders as well as 6!
Id much rather hook the monster and bust off, than not know he even touched my lure! Not to mention how fun it is landing fish that weigh (hopefully) more than the stated line capacity!

yup, just go lighter and change the plastic if nothing is happening....color and or style.....but the whole thing is as Ira said, you have to be able to feel the timid bites, and using 12lb leader and 6lb line is not going to allow this.

Hiya...

Don't worry Oscar your not the only one out there having no luck on SP's. It has taken me 6 months to break the drought and that was on a HB during the boaters weekend. I think it just comes down to practice, I have the setup but I think I just miss the bites. I am more used to a fish hammering my lure/bait. Hopefully the workshop next week will give me some insites Follow Ira's advice and keep at it, and know your not the only out there trying to crack the SP voodoo. Keep the faith brother.

...Cheers

Shane

It is a matter of reading and learning as much as you can about this style of fishing. Try and get out with the better guys and watc hwhat they do....ask heaps of questions if you arent sure...everyone is all too willing to help someone out who is trying to learn. SP fishing is just like any other sport, it has to be practiced to be perfected.....even then noone is perfect. I am sure everyone has days when they dont cathc fish, just one of them things, but what everyone wants is LESS of them days
