Single hooks on HB's
Quick question/s. Has anyone here replaced the trebles on their lures to single hooks? ie; s40, jackall chubbys etc. I have seen it done on vibe type lures.
Also, Would circle hooks be the better choice? Not sure if you can get them small enough. Thinking circle hooks because you wont have to "strike" the fish just ease into the hook up. Like you do when bait fishing for them. Cheers Gav. |

They normally hook themselves on the trebles. Plus if you change to a single hook it may affect the buoyancy rate on the lure. Make sure your trebles are sticky sharp !

I have thought of the bouyancy breamskin, more looking at the release I s'pose. Not too worried if the singles weight the lure down a little, I like the idea of the lure to slowly sink.
Cheers for the reply mate, will look into this abit more. Might just go buy some hooks n see what happens. Cheers Gav. |

Putting singles on a HB will ost likely make them float rather than sink - singles usualy weigh less. You can tune the lure weight using Tungsten Putty. If you're looking for singles the Gamakatsu Single lure hooks come in sizes small enough to fit on a HB aimed at bream. Have a look at the orientation of the hook eye on these and then figure if they'll suit the HB you want to fit them to - most singles won't work on a chubby at the back due to the orientation of the hook (unless you fit another split ring). Or fit two singles on each point, have seen this done on bigger lures a bit hard to explain but fit 2 singles to each split ring opposing each other so when fish strikes both singles turn into a double.
There are singles on the market "not here though" that are a bit heavier also they're barbed and would probably weigh as much as a treble so may not effect lures action etc. Mark |

I'm trialling them......i have found the single hooks on the lures that come with singles ( Daiwa KP Presso Cranks, Smith Camions etc ) to be brilliant at hookups and staying connected to fish.
They do generally wreck the buoyancy of the lure but i use sticky weight with most of my lures anyway. I believe they are a Van Fook barbless single, very very fine and super sharp!! Mick. PS. Just get good trebles for Chubby's....too much trouble otherwise. |

Same hooks as on a Daiwa KP Presso Crank, just a size smaller. They are brilliant hooks, not sure who makes them but they are fine so they would be marketed as a Trout hook in Japan.
