Are these different steering mechanisms? Dis-advantages/advantage of the different methods? Would like to know abit more about electric power before buying a unit. Ta. |

This has probably been talked about a bit in the past, so you may not get many replies.
I have a 67pound Motorguide cable steer. I don't really know how to explain properly but basicly cable steer uses two cables (Left or Right) to pull depending on which way you want to go, probably like on a horses reigns want to go left pull back on the left one, want to go right pull back on the right one. Except the pedal goes up and down not side to side.. Servos I think just send electric signals to the motor to steer and response is a little slower. Cable steers are meant to be quicker in terms of response but I don't think you get the auto pilot on cable and the cord between the Motor and pedal is not as long. These two options may not seem very important but I sometimes fish Electric only dams and being able to operate the bowmount from the back of the boat and the auto pilot would make life alot easier especailly trolling for long periods. Cable steers are great in tight spots like oyster leases, snags, tight creeks etc. but servos are good in open water and have more options. Like boats it's a trade off, work out what areas you fish the most and talk to others who have electrics in your areas, hear their pros and cons. For my saltwater work Cable steer is the go, for freshwater dams I would find a servo very handy. Hope this helps a bit. Cheers Captain |
