political recreational fishos ILMAO

Doing the rounds of various fishing sites the lack of any sort of political will stands out like dog nuts. Recreational fishos seem to be much more interested in bluing amongst each other over C&R verses meat fishers to worry about little things like habitat degradation, estuary netting, closed fishing areas, a fishing tax {license} to name a few. There’s no way that the rec fishos will band together in to a cohesive political weapon because we are way to fractionalized {if that’s a word} to do anything but grease our collective bottoms and stand by to receive.

Welcome to breammaster.com! Hell of a way to make an entrance. So in support of what your saying, I agree that there needs to be more action taken and less infighting...but there are good people within the recfisho scene that are working pretty hard to change things...

What are you really saying...or is it a case of I need to blow of some steam? Coz if that's the case then go a head but be careful of generalizations

I agree totally Kikala. But have also seen on this a lot more agreement on this site than dissent. There are quite a few people on this site doing good work towards the rec fishing scene.
No website is going to generate groups of people acting to a common goal. What it does do however is give people a chance to talk about a common interest. These people will meet to enjoy that common goal (I am talking fishing here lol). And once people meet in the flesh and form organisations then they start to generate political voices.
Look at it this way, this site encourages folk to participate in bream tournaments, they have to join an association. When the numbers are large enough that association can exert political pressure.
To put that in real terms. If a organisation can say " our tournaments generated $250 000 toward your small town economy last year, and no fish were killed in the process, then maybe you should think twice about restrictingh Recreational fishing in your area.

Angry you’re talking about a no kill mentality. The majority for recfishos like and want a feed of fish so why put them on the outer?

PS are all bycatch in bream tournaments released?

And you make some good points about c & r as opposed to catch and eat...I personally don't have a problem with any fisho catching his bag limit and having a meal, even bream...just as long as its done with in the State bag and size limits.

I just choose to practice c & r with all estuary species, personally. If we can find the common ground together then yeah, maybe we can change some things!

If you really want to each your catch then make sure its worth it. ie: no undersized fish or ones that could potentially be breeding etc. The general baito though has for generations gone out and caught his feed and maybe more than that, lets face it bag limits are still quite modest for most estuary species
You can still take a feed and release the others caught, its all about education!

C&R fishermen are, as far as i can see the only anglers that are actually learning ways to improve the future of their pastime ie: ways to improve mortality of fish caught, polution etc..
and tournaments generally have about a 90% successful release rate.
so yes there is a very real distinction between us, call it factionalism or whatever!

dont net, all you have to do is fish with a rod.you wont out fish an area so fast. think about it ,if fish dont get back in the area what will happen.DAH,THERE WONT BE ANY FISH TO FISH FOR.
