G'Day Richo,
I have been fishing lures the last few times out, but before that we had a good session at Mt Henry, picking up a few fish from each pylon on fly. Also managed a few tailor. Will let you know how we go next trip. Cheers, Cole |

And the rest of us Jeff.
Fly fishing is an addiction like no other fishing I have done. Trust me.

I agree with Bear. No other form of fishing gives you as much control over the whole package, from making your own flies to choosing the exact sink rate of the line you want to use. It's quite a buzz to catch a fish on a fly you tied yourself.
However, there are frustrating aspects of it such as nearly losing an ear when it gets windy, and the extra maintenance you need to do on fly gear (cleaning the lines etc). I've found myself chucking lures around more often lately. I guess it's so much easier to pick up a spin rod.... I've managed a few fish on fly from around ascot waters lately using BMS's, also managed a few from the Murray on flashy green clousers before christmas. Techniques are not that different to lures. Just cast into the snags and retreive very slowly. They will often take it when it's sinking or sitting on the bottom. James. |

I know Bear that is my point.I was brought up waving the wand on the lakes and rivers of N.Z.As jimi said to catch a fish on a fly you have tied yourself is a unreal experience.I can see another weapon will be added to the breamin arsenal before long (this is going to hurt the bank).

Hi Richo
Lately i have been catching smaller bream, soapies and a couple of flatties. mainly taken on crazy charlies pink, white, the flylife green sparkly one. In on session in the hawksberry 3 bream, 2 soapies and 2 fatties. loads of tailor and small fish good fun. I use a #7 rod a #8 intermediate not the clear ones a 10ft leader and finish off on a 8lb tippet. Cast and let sink and short sharp strip and allow fly to sink continue. Cheers Stuie PS Have taken to the BMS styles very nice i have tried Mrs Simpson on a #4 Mustad 34007 very nice. |
