How much 4 lb TD sensor will a 2004 spool take?

More specifically, how much backing will I need to fill the spool? A couple of wraps, 20 m, or none???

I've got a 150 m spool of 4 lb TD Sensor that I want to spool onto a 2004 (Certate finesse custom) spool... how useful is the word "spool"

Unfortunately I only have the one (reel) spool to play with so I can't do the ol' line swapping manouvre.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search with no success. Many thanks for your help guys.

on my infeet 2004 spool i fit about 100 metres worth of TD sensor 4 lb on there with only about 1 - 2 metres of 4 lb fluro backing. i didnt pack it on there really tight though so if ya crank the drag right up and put it on under lost of pressure you would fit more but it wouldnt take all 150 metres even without backing.

you wont need a spare spool to get the right amount on there, just spool it up and you will have more than enough to fill it up.

Got it. So it won't take all 150 m. Thanks Nuzzy.

I noticed that there is a little indentation on the spool itself. I assume this is where you should put your knot. I'm thinking this might help braid grip a little better without backing as well.

I might try spooling it up without backing and see what happens. I'm not anticipating any huge fish on this setup so I don't think slippage will be a problem. Plus I know of people that never use backing and have never had any problems.

Has anyone out there actually have their braid slip on the spool due to lack of backing? Or is it a bit of a myth? I have always used backing so I can't say either way.

why not put quite a bit of backing on then fill the last little bit with braid works out cheaper and you get more out of a single spool of braid . very rarely do bream pull 100 yards + of line

True. But the less knots in the mix the better. I would rather 150 m of braid and that's it.

Just spooled the entire 150 m spool on pretty much perfect. No backing. Yeah, I went there.

putting a little bit of electrical tape on the spool works well too.

i wouldnt put fluro backing on it as if there are big flatties, trevs etc, etc then your spool would take more heat from the ever constant drag and burn your fluro

cant be on there too tight, on a sol 2000 you can fit over 250 metres of 4 lb TD sensor if you use no backing. dont know why you would want to though, be a costly exercise.

i wouldnt recommend having no backing, even if you do have more braid than will fit on the spool, at least just enough backing to covering the spool in light mono.
