Daiwa E-gee 2506

Has any one used these new 'entry level' squid reels from Daiwa?

They look pretty decent and from what I can gather are based on the Exceler. I'm looking at one for my Egi-Force C and as a backup bream reel on a heavier 2-4kg rod if I do a comp next year. I like the knob, shallow spool and at 255g they are lighter than most 2500 Shimano's.

Any thoughts or even substitutes in the same field?

Its basically a Tierra with a fancy knob and a shallow spool. I'd go for a Sephia BB, comes in single and double handle models. It's slightly geary, but it can put up with the abuse when doing the crazy egi action.

Thanks. I agree that would be good but its double the price. I'd like to stay under $250 for an egi reel. My Exceler does the job currently and quite well but its getting old and I want the better knob etc.

I have one myself, it doesn't feel as silky smooth as the daiwas, but the gears are way more durable compared to the digigear reels. This is good remembering eging puts a lot of pressure on reels. At the current exchange rates, its in your budget.

mate i love my egee it has caught jews trevs bream everything and is still silky smooth

Cheers, I could only find the $500 Sephia when I looked before. The twin handle E-gee looked alright on there but the extra weight is a bit much.

It's a Hearty Rise Egi-force Type C, 8'3", PE0.6-1.2

I like it. Very comfortable and balances well with the rod I mentioned above. The drag is light but does not stick at all so there was less chance of pulling out the hooks if a squid jumps on mid-jerk.

A quick session this morning yielded a couple of nice squid and a fat cuttlefish which I released.

Sick pics man, camera?

Got one for my little brother a while ago, its not as nice as when it was first bought. Gears aren't anywhere near as good as a sol/kix but for the money they have to be one of the best value reels on the market.

Yeh, for that price, its not going to be perfect but it will only be used for land based squidding so it should last me a while.

Ahk, yeah heard good things about them.

Should get ages out of it man, aside from cranks for the crazy egi flick it won't have to deal with much with squid.

I bought a few when they were on special from Plat. TBH I thought that for the price the spool and the handle where worth the asking price alone if I used them on my other Daiwa's. I gave them a quick service when I first got them, just greased the gears etc and the drags and three out of the four I have are silky smooth and the drags are great. I use them for general sp and hard body work from the boat and they are perfect for that. The 2506 spool gives good casting distance and to date I couldn't be happier.
