Hey all,

Just wondering what lures salmon take? been using and with great success trusty lazers but just wondering if bibbed diving lures work well also?

Cheers Rick-

Unweighted 5 inch snapbacks!! In white or pearl/purple colour on a worm hook.

I've never looked back.

Mate the salmon in my parts seem to take absolutley anything, i mean anything from TB worms, grubs, flick baits, an assortmnent of HB lures, surf poppers.

Top water, mid water and deep. Crazy stuff.

Colour doesnt seem to matter.

Even aluminium foil wrapped around a hook.

I have tried the "straw lure" and caught them. Doesn't seem to matter what colour, just a hook, swivel, small weight and a drinking straw. Salmon will take anything just add a bit of action to the lure for a quicker hookup.

Yep, salmon will take pretty much anything you throw at them. I've caught them on everything, SP's, HB's, Vibes you name it. Not the smartest fish around, although they can fight like tooth and nail especially on light Bream weight gear.

Wink

Sometimes the simple stuff is the best and wenever I go fishing for salmon it seems they always fall for a trusty metal slice.

I had an awesome session the other day with sure-catch metals. i had a 40g and a 65g and its amazing that even the small fish were taking on the 65g LOL, caught 15 in 2hrs (whilst chasing my little girl everywhere also hehe) so i had a ball.

So many times I've been fishing with friends and it will be one particular size metal that will get smacked cast after cast and the others don't get a hit until they change to lure that is the same size as the one getting hit! And when you pull one of the salmon in they would usually spit out the bait fish they been eating and it would be roughly the same size as the lure your using! So what I'm saying is, they will pretty much smack anything that you can get to them, but it dosen't hurt to have variety of different lures for them so you can ''match the hatch'' when/if you need too! I hope this helps!
Agree and sometimes they won't touch anything even bait but when they're on the bite they're on the bite!!!

These were very popular lures for us for the WA Salmon season ZBL Monsoon Breaker, ZBL System Minnow 15HD-F and this year ZBL Slide Swim Minnow 120 still available in WA I think.

Those Surf Poppers work well too

Oops just realised the Salmon your after are the same size as the lures I sell in WA

Downsize and they react to hi speed retrieve so something you can rip and wind if your using bibbed minnows and match the hatch
