RMG Scorpion 35 Lure - How to work it?
Hey everyone, recently I got my first hard body lure as a present and prior to this I have had no experience whatsoever with lures. I was given a Halco RMG Scorpion 35 although I have forgotten which type (STD,Sneaky etc) as I have thrown the package it came in away but recall it had something to do with 1.6m or 1.8m (water depth).
Basically, I'm a total newbie at this whole phenom and I attempted to use it on my last fishing trip to no avail. I found casting range was very limited as it was quite light but that wasn't the real problem. I had no idea how to work them at all, all I noticed it do was sit on top of the water floating, I'd reel it a bit and it would go under water for a while then float back up. Does anyone know which type I have and how to use these successfully? Any tips are welcome! |

There are numbers of ways to tell if its a sneaky or the other model. First of all is your towpoint (the place where you tie your line onto) plastic. If its plastic then its a sneaky, however if its metal then its the sinking model. Thats the second way to split the 2. One will sink and the other will suspend (which means it stays in the "strike zone" for a longer period of time). Now as in how to use it,..its more of a matter of the day. Some days fish will hesitate to take a lure and you must basically keep it in there face for a long period of time so slower retreives. But on other days they may take a reasonable fast retreive. But to keep it plain and simple what I have found to work is just the slow roll (slowly winding the handle) just keep doing that from the moment it hits the water to straight back to your rod tip also feel free to add suddle pauses or just speed up your retreive. Look for structural places where fish may consider hiding. (Fish crave structure) as in shade, sandflats but mostly fallen trees, mangroves and rockwalls. Also not to mention any man made structure will also work great. Another thing you may want to keep in consideration is your set-up. If you are really keen to learn to lure fish. Then a light and portable set-up will work perfectly. I know you may be on a budget but once you get into it you'll want MORE. ![]() If you head down to DohDohDoh you could often find a cheap set-up for lure fishing. Such as a graphite rod (Lighter and not so floppy on the tip despite the fibreglass rods) and a cheap low profile spin reel anything between (1000 - 2500) would be perfect. Anything heavier will just be a pain in the @$$ to carry around all day. Shouldn't cost you more then $100 MAX. If you go there at the right time. Also make sure to consider brain instead of your usual monofilament. You may be a bit if-y to go to such a bright colours line but in the end you'll know why almost every bream/lure fisho use it. For starters Braid has no memory (which is the spirals you see from monofilament as it rolls of the reel.) So in other words, it wont flutter through your guides and therefore will get you a much greater distance them with monofilament. Which means lighterweights wont be as much of a hassel. You can often find spools of braid such as fireline which is just excellent for the value. Comes to RRP about 30 smacks a spool. (depending on which type) Well I know I may have gotten a bit carried away and be sure that I am not demanding anything just merely putting in some input. ![]() I hope this helps you out a long way and look forward to seeing a few picture. ![]() regards, -Pivot- |

My first rod and reel were a light, cheap outfit ($65), I found when I spooled up with braid it made the biggest difference as I could feel exactly what the lure was doing.. The retrieve that worked for me starting out was stop-start-stop-start by lifting the rod tip (only a couple of inches) then winding in the slack. That's a nice easy one to start with and the fish love it, just adjust the speed and fish around until BINGO

I just very slowly wind them in. They are one of my favourites lures.
They do not cast the best though. |

if you take the belly trebble off you rmg35 susspending it will become a floating lure that way you dont have to buy a floating and suspending rmg as for using them do a couple of winds let the lure float back to the top and wait for a about 5 to 8 seconeds dont be to eager to wind when retreving the lures ,most often the lure will get smashed on the surface, this is a great lure for the warmer months and to fish in snags . take your time please and you will be greatly rewarded.
