Thumbs up HB Techniques in Maribyrnong

Hi Guys,

just after some feedback on what you prefer (technique-wise) for your Hard Bodies. In not necessarily pointing this thread just for the Maribyrnong - but this is the streach of water that i fish... so this is where i'll start.

I had a fish this evening down at the nong - and for the first time ever i smashed the bream down there on HBs... At some stages it was a fish every cast, and i landed about 15 of them in a space of 1 to 1.5 hrs.

Now, ive fished HBs down there before - but never with any luck. And it wasnt until i bumped into one of the forum members here (on sunday) that i decided to seriously take at crack with HBs only.

So, just on sunset today i ventured down the nong for my fishing fix. The first fourty minutes... Nothing. Admittedly, i was fumbling around techniques... starting - stoping - twitching - pulsing the rod - solidly retreaving... Anyway, my big "ahhh ha" moment came when i began fishing it as if it were an SP... As in extremely slow, letting it sit on the surface most of the time, then a twitch, a pause, then a double twitch, etc... And out of knowhere i started hooking up left, right, and centre.

So the reason i decided to open this thread - was to see if this is the same way you've all been fishing the area as well. Im pretty baffled about how i didnt clue into this earlier, although out of fairness - iv probably never fished HBs in the dark, and never sooooooo slllloooooowwwwllllly.

Share your thoughts guys...

P.S - If your all interested i can post some of the photos i took tonight on the iphone using my torch as a light source...

Nelson

Well done mate, those red Sx40's seem to do well in the river there. By the way I was the guy who stopped to ask how you were going while on my walk

I've been noticed that all the fish seem to come from two or three specific spots along the river. Has everyone else experienced the same thing or have you caught fish throughout the entire streach of water.

I have found this to be the case with both SP as well as the HBs. So I'm trying to work out if it's the "technique" I've been using in these areas... Or have I not applied the right technique that within the water that has turned out fishless?

What are you finding?

certainly there are favourite spots and areas where it always seems to be quiet (more so in colder weather). I've caught fish in more than 3 areas, but there are probably about half a dozen reliable spots I head for first in the stretch (couple of kms) of the river I fish and a similar number where I have a couple of token casts as I'm walking from one spot to the next. Be cautious in announcing where your favorites are unless you want a crowd. I guess you can reveal the hopeless spots if you like though.....
