How big is a 1kg bream?
I'm wondering how long a 1kg bream is. I don't have scales and I'm not sure how close I'm getting to the 1kg mark. I've caught a couple lately nudging the 40cm mark, hopefully I'm not too far away.

This time of year in Perth 40+ should go 1kg at least
Cheers

The answer is a lot bigger than most people think. I've caught 2 fish in the last month of 40cm, one weighed 1.3kg and the other 1.2kg. These were weighed on reasonably accurate salter 5kg scales.
I think the fishes condition makes a huge difference. The fish I caught were in spawning condition and so were quite fat. I would imagine your fish would have been over the 1kg mark. It's worth getting hold of some scales to be sure for next time. It's amazing how often you see reports or hear people saying they caught heaps of kilo plus fish. If they had actually weighed these fish, they might be surprised to find that they were quite a bit less. Cheers James

A recent outing saw a 38cm go just over 1kg and a 37cm bream go just under 1 kg, caught in southern rivers. As others have said, it can depend greatly on location, time of years etc etc.
Weighed on some cheap scales but 1/2 kilo of sugar weighed in at 500grams so good enough for me |

Depends how broad/thick they are. Like most fish the closer they get to maximum length and the older they get, they begin to grow outwards rather than longer. I haven't seen many around 1kg in person, (I'm sure there are many more people here who have seen more than me) but in the last week or two, a fish of 38cm went approx 800gm whilst 3 or so fish around 41-42cm all weighed 1.3-1.4kg. So yeh, even though there is only a few cm difference in length there was like half a kilo difference in weight.
Ummm!! I'm starting to confuse myself here but hopefully you can get the gist of it. |

Thanks guys. These guys were fairly fat but not porkers and weren't that deep bodied. I'm going to be conservative and call them under the kilo mark.
