ABT Tweed River and Bribie Island rounds

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone is entering the July 10-11 (Tweed River) and August 7-8 (Bribie Island) ABT events this year?

I've not participated in a tournament before, but was thinking of giving these two events a go (as a non-boater) and as such, was hoping to find a boater to team up with, and also hopefully get some practice working together before the event.

If anyone is interested, let me know

Thanks,
Jason

Be prepared for lots of undersize fish at the Tweed.
You dont need a boater to enter with .Is that what you need a boater for ??

I realise you don't need to enter with a boater, I just thought it would be better to actually know/have fished with the person you're teamed up with, rather than just rocking up and are like "Hi, i'm you're designated friend for today" :P

You don't get to know who your 2 boaters are until the friday night briefing as it's a random draw.
The entry list you see on the fishing monthly site is purely a list of who enters first. The boaters start of in that order and the non boaters can be starting anywhere dependant on who their boater is.

Perhaps give the teams events a run first, fish with a mate to get the feel of things then throw your self into an individual event.

In the end just give it a go you will enjoy it, you never know who your boater will be, you could even get some famous names. That could only be a good thing.
It can sound daunting at first, but once you have given it a go it's easy

I'm not sure I understand entirely - What is the difference between the team and individual events? Sorry for the stupid question, but I had a good read through www.bream.com.au and couldn't see any mention of different categories, other than the pro category and the normal category?

ABT run the individual events such as the Goldcoast , Tweed and Bribie rounds. these events you enter as a boater or non boater (recently called the "co angler") and are randomly paired.
With the winners to qualify for the Grand final at Mallacoota

Teams events are run by different organisers under the ABT umbrella such as the Gamakatsu teams events and the BETS events in NSW. These events you enter as a team and stay as a team.
With the winners to qualify for the teams Grand Final being run by ABT in Gippsland lakes.

ah, right...

I was talking about entering the former that you mentioned as a non-boater... I must have mis-interpreted the site in that I thought if you entered both a boater and a non-boater on the same form you were paired together...

Sorry for the confusion

As Mr DB says it may sound daunting but the best way is to give it a go..you'll pick up the way it all works really quickly. If you don't know many people into the tournaments don't worry just make sure you've joined ABT and put your entry in and be at the briefing the night before. When your paired with your boaters for the weekend just let them know its your first go and importantly throughout the weekend ask them to point you in the right direction if needs be eg where should I store this in the boat. Am I ok to cast over there? etc.

If you have'nt already read it see the link below.

http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/bb3...n+boater#p3052

You will get plenty of assistance and often get to spend a day with some top anglers but be warned..its bloody addictive..you'll be casting in your sleep the night before!
