need help, what size 1000 or 2500?

im currently running 2500 size stradics one C14 and one FI. just wondering if anyone could tell me what would be the advantages and disadvantages of downgrading the size to a 1000 size reel as far as soft plastic and hardbody fishing for bream would go?

Smaller spool diameter can lead to line management dramas, especially with stiffer lines and lines with memory, such as nylon and fluoro monofilaments.

Advantage: lighter weight, sometimes slower gear ratios so you can really take the pace off and fish slow when you want to.

Disadvantage: if you have rods that balance with a 2500, changing to 1000's will throw the balance out of wack.

yeah everyone keeps reassuring me the 2500s are better. i got a g loomis gl2 dropshot and a millerods bream buster classic so id say they would match well to both a 1000 or 2500.

yeah i suppose both have there advantages in certain situations so maybe it wouldnt hurt to have both?

If you want something smaller look at getting a 200X sized reel... I run a 2004 daiwa and it is fantastic for slow working lures casting is still very respectable. and the drag is enough for bream (2kg)

The 200x, such as my Daiwa Infeet 2004 are 2000 size bodied reels, with 1000 size line capacity - the spool has a larger diameter arbor.

cheers

Smile Alex, you are my hero !!!

Hello Alex

You are definitely my hero on the Bream Club.
I now have three beautiful Daiwa,Sols 2000,all thanks to all your wonderful advice. And please make note,I'm now officially known as " SOL_LADY "
I have many, many rods and reels, but since slightly down sizing as far as my
car goes,my 5.1m boat with it's 80hp mercury is going to be moved to the other house at Paynesville.
As you already know,Mum,sadly has lung cancer,so,she very kindly gave me her car as a loving gift and it has only done 13.000k's,and has been fully serviced every four to five month's even it needed it or not!
But getting back the original trail on here,I think the Daiwa,Sols, leave many others at the starting track. I use to be a confirmed Shimano Reel lover, but,I have crossed the line forever I honestly think
I'm still loving my Pfleuger Rods and one Bait Caster set up of there's."No complaints thus far" I also love my other Pfleuger, spinning rods as well along with my trusty Berkley 7' rod and my Shimano 7' rod. The latter all mentioned have Daiwa,Sol 2000's on them.
I'd never ever given a thought about using the lighter weighted Graphite Rods out in the rain,or,winter weather, until a stranger mentioned it to me !!!!!
LOL Anyway,I'll be land based fishing again for a while,so,you you may even see me at The Docklands, after all
Tight lines and God Bless, you all,

Gae
