mate,
i am a daiwa addict, but i am going to recommend the shimano symetre, saros and sedona range of 2500 sized reels. i used these reels alot early on and they went through their fair amount of abuse, but have come through. my kids wil be getting them later on down the track and i cant think of a better quality reel for the price
i hope this helps
cheers

I have a 7' 1-3kg Sic Stik and curently use a Daiwa Infeet 2004 reel on it (the Infeet is supposedly a 2500-sized frame, with a 1000-sized spool capacity). The rod is very top-heavy, so I'd suggest a 2500-sized reel at the very least.

cheers

i have a symeter in the 4000 size and its really good, a very smooth reel
i think one in the 2500 size would go great

Agreed. Or you could wait a while for a reel at a low price like a stradic FI, every now and again you'll see one in a forum around the $160 mark.
