Damiki Mu - how to use them?

Having never used anything apart from SX40s and Strikepro small fry and pygmies, I thought I might give the Damiki mus a swim this morning in a shallow rocky bank. Casts really well, but I couldn't feel the 'brrrrup" when I pulled the line in. Had to sweep the rod pretty quickly (and too quickly for bream I reckon) to get a brrrup thing... Am I doing somethign wrong with this lure? Also, I had 2 mus in my box, one was a sinker and the other was suspending, maybe the sinker had trebles that were too big. Is that normal?

Yep their action is really suttle on the rod tip but the lure is kicking. Give it a slow sweep then a few twitches and pause, repeat. Bream certainly will hit them hard, I mainly use them when the rats are thick, seems to filter them out very well and big bream love em.

...one is sinking (MU 45), the other (MU-SP 45) is suspending. they work well as a rip bait.

The action of the Damiki Mu is subtle but very effective.

How i use it is....

cast (and it tends to fly), wind up slack, with one slow sweep of the rod drag it down to its running depth (0.5m), work the tip of the rod a fair bit with minimal reeling, throw in a few pauses every now and then and its as easy as that.

It is used best as a twitchbait but i have caught many fish on a slow roll.

I will try that next time I use it. It does cast a LONG way! Just wasn't used to not feeling the wiggle. SX40s wiggle at the slightest movement and when I don't get the wiggle on the SX40s, its usually either the line has caught the middle treble or the lure's caught some weed or floating rubbish (which is aplenty at the nong). So when I did the sweep on the damiki, I didn't feel the wiggle which made me wonder about whether it snagged on some weed or whether the lure is NQR (Not qUite Right).

Say, if the lure is out of the box, how do you tell the suspending version apart from the sinking version? There is no info printed on them to distinguish them (or not that I can see anyway).

unfortunately there is no way to tell the difference. the original slow sinkers came with barbless single trout hooks on them and the suspenders had the trebles. now that they both come with trebles, the only way to check which is which is to try them out.

the best way to use them is as described by the guys above. it is more of a jerk bait/ twitchbait style lure suited for flats etc where as the damiki saemi 50sp has a similar shape to the sx40 bill wise and that will give a closer action to the sx's if that is what you are after.

cheers

rob
