ecogear mx48 sinking?
hey everyone.
the other week i bought myself a new mx48 and while twitching it across some flats i realised that on the pauses it wouldn't float up slowely or even suspend but it would infact sink. it is branded as a floating lure so i took it back and got myself a replacement. using that today i realised my replacement sunk aswell ![]() has anyone else had this issue with the mx's p.s. these lures were both brand new out of the box, haven't slapped them against the water or cast them into anything. i'm also not using clips at all just tying my leader strait to the split ring...

Hey i had the same thing happen to me after purchasing two mx48's. i took them back to were they were bought and it stund the stafe members aswel. they stuk it in a bucket to find once the lure hit the bottom it wuld rest on its trebles so mayby the trebles of the lure r to heavy for it? i just got the mx48's replaced with a cuple of sugar deeps, although the the sinking lure stil catches fish!

salt man.
i recon my new mx48S couldd sill be a pretty mad lure if i let it sink and hop it around like a plastic. it's worth a shot anyway

Remember salt densities in water may effect a lures neutralisation.
Also heavier carbon may also add to the weight pulling down a lure. |

yep so freshwater may see it sink a little especially if its compounded by heavy carbon leader
Maybe it is out of whack? |

I use them a lot, they are an excellent lure. Most seem to just suspend, but i've had some that slowly sink. They are a very finely balanced lure and as the others have pointed out, the 3 factors that may determine how they float, sink or suspend are the weight of the hooks, water salinty levels and the type of leader used, so it may take some trial and error to see what works best for them in the water you're fishing

if you think it's your leader try putting a coat of scent on the leader (dizzy's, ultrabite etc) the wax ones aid with floatation, put some on the lure aswell.
the amount of weight needed to make them sink is marginal, have used them at a river mouth and they suspended but then sink slowly when used in the upper reaches of the river. can be frustrating though as it tends to happen when you really don't want it to and vice versa |

Remove the split rings, trebles and wack some w's on it, that little less weight may help it behave
