Poppers vs. 'Walk the Dog' Surface baits

Personally I prefer walkers but cup faced poppers sure produce their fare share of fish too. Its going to be a long hot summer, and im having a ball already!

So yeah, which do you prefer?

I prefer the walk the dog style ones as they catch more fish (where i live) but i love watching a bream/fish take a popper. Hopefully in summer it will go off, looking forward to try out some surface lures im ordering - the Megabass Pop-X, Sammy 65, Dog X JR and Zipbaits Popper

definitely walk the dog style lures especially the px45. I've been having a ball lately on them. i had a school of bream in about 40cms of water and every cast i would pull a fish between 27 and 33cms. also got 2 flattys at 50cm out of the same school of fish. but the poppers also do well, i use them when the wind is up a bit and i cant cast the px45 far enough.

I think you have a lot more control over the lure with a pencil and have so many different ways to work them compared to a straight cup faced popper. They do have there place though, like kevvy7 says when the wind is up and a bit of chop you will probably get a bit more notice with a cup face/standard popper.

Hey Matt,

I think walk-the-dog type lures is the best out of the two. But , I think fish on poppers are alot more vicious then on walk-the-dog lures IMO. So, I say catch rate wise, walk-the-dog are better, and visualant wise I have to go poppers.

Walk the dog, has a more realistic action, i think some poppers spray too much water, and sometimes scare the fish away, but they can still catch fish!!!!

I like walk the dogs also, they are realistic when worked well. But there is just something about popper fishing that is electric.

So for me i prefer poppers just for the fun of it.

It depends a lot on the day and type of fish your targeting.. but yes ive got to agree the walk the dog style has been a lot more successful.

I prefer walk the dog type lures, but if you can get a popper that walks well its a win win.

if you think they are spraying to much water try working your popper as if it was a "walk the dog style" lure with little twitches so that it doesn't spray much.

Of course, both types are good and effective on bream, however, i really believe that a lot of people prefer walk the dog types because thats what they "want" to use rather than a cup faced and if you want to use something it means you have confidence in it and on top of that, the more you use something, the more fish you'll end up catching - i think most would agree on that ?
Personally, i like a lure that can do a bit of both, like the px45 and t-pivot. A bit of splash can be good and alerts bream that something is in panick mode and perhaps under attack by another bream, so it can encourage a more direct attack.
If i had to say one or another, a small popper, but the t-pivot is my favourite
