Perth - Surface

Well with the dreaded hot season coming I am going to set myself a challenge. I have never got a bream on a surface lure and this will be my challenge this summer.

Any suggestions for a lure that works well in the Swan and where one would target such lures, Burswood flats and such?

best one for me last summer Shane was the daiwa gekka's in the red colour
very keen this summer to try out the baby griffon zero's, i think it is, the one that swims just inder the top with a big fat wobble and makes some surface disturbance
i reckon theyll be dynamite

Does colour matter, or is it more action? I don't mind going out and buying a few lures, but don't want to get the wrong colour and not catch fish

Ive had quite a bit of luck at the flats just past Mt Henry bridge heading towards the sticks. I haven't caught any on poppers but i have caught quite a few on the gold squidgy bugs. They aren't a popper but are a surface lure and have been dynamite for me. So maybe a popper with gold in it would work.

Sorry to hijack the post but Mark, can you expand on the technique needed for the skinny pop? I've only used the one for a short time but couldnt get it to walk that well.

Cheers,
Nathan

Rod tip down slow retrieve while giving light twitches left to right at the same time as winding takes practise.

rare lure but if you can find them, smith kacoon, big lure but is a renowned big bream taker, looks more like a bass/sml barra lure but ive used it on blacks around the gipsland area and around bris on yellowfin and it is dynamite

Nathan, i quite often have to do it the opposite way to what Mark says because i'm wading or at water level. So i have a high rod tip using the wrist to pulse it, its mainly a matter of timing.

Hey Shane,

I bought a few popers yesterday, 2 stiffy lures in rack attack and prowler colours and a River2sea bubbie pop 35. I am going to try these out tomorrow. I am just trying to decide were to go first, not sure if i should hit the canning or swan flats. I will let you know how i go. I also have two of the new Halco coloured lures to give a bash aswell. It may be a day of just hards tomorrow.

Cheers
Tim
