Social Yak comp.
On the weekend i took part in a state wide social estuary comp, there was a few prizes,,Finn kayaks donated a kayak for the longest 3 bream which was 96 cm from Moore river,,most folks battled to get any bream, one guy in Denmark could only catch Snapper after Snapper,i never saw one Bream all weekend,,but i saw some new and scenic country, heres my report from the Yak forum.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My weekend Bream campain was to fish the Sticks at Shelley in the mornings and Blackwall reach in the evening, those plans were thrown into disarray, i recieved a tip that the Sticks are not much chop in the morning and with temps in the high 30's Blackwall reach will be yahoo central, i could just imagine to the kids jumoping off the cliffs screaming there lungs out on the way down. I pulled out the street directory and my eyes gazed South to new ground, North and South Yunderup caught my eye and a breeze to get there with the new Bunbury highway, with the van loaded i headed to Coopers Mill North yunderup, when i arrived it looked like Bream heaven,,no boats nor people and great Bream country. ![]() ![]() It is spectacular country but wheres the Bream ,the caretaker and his dog wandered over and asked if i had caught anything ? no nothing i said,,thats about what most folks get he replied It was nice country and i was happy to be there paddling around as the curturn closed on another day,, ![]() ![]() ![]() The next morning i headed to the South Yunderup canal system,,very much like the Gold Coast with expensive boats parked on they own private jetty,,despite throwing Atomic hards and snap back placcy all i saw was squadrons of hungry blowies and i keeped hooking them every 5 minutes,,slimy weed was a problem also,, ![]() After a couple hours i headed into town for smoko,,i asked a couple guys where the bream are,,try Ravenswood bridge and the new bunbury highway bridge , i headed for the bridge and the pub on the river next door was doing a roaring trade from boaties and bikers, i launched next to the bridge and threw placcys and HB,s about around the bride and then upstreamm,,all to no avail ,,when i got back the crowd had swelled a couple hundred people and folks were enjoying a beer near the water. ![]() ![]() I nominate the Ravenswood hotel for our next get together,,easy run from Perth and easy for the south westers (make it a sunday and take our yaks) In conclusion no Bream sighted but it was good to find scenic new areas to fish and sight see. Yes its the fishiest country i have ever seen, i was just reading the latest Barra,Bass and Bream Mag and it has an artilce on the area (Mandurah)apparently Mandurah has one of the highest number of boats per head in the world yet the boat ramps are empty and i have not come across anybody fishing for bream yet over two weekends.
![]() Next weekend we will go into the shallow stuff thats impossible for boats to get there,,fingers crossed. |
