Norries Laydown Minnow Copy

This is just my opinion however I recon its a bit dissapointing when a well known Australian fishing journo puts his name to what appears to be a cheap copy of a very good imported bream lure.
I'm reffering to one of the the Starlo Pro Series models (which I am told is made exclusivly for DohDohDoh) and, apart from the obvious cheaper quality colors, finish & hardware looks very very similar to the Norries L/DM (which is quite a distinctive lure). To be fair I've got no idea how they go in the water and of course they are considerably cheaper to buy but we see this kind of thing a lot these days with other lures and in all sorts of manufacturing.
Hey!...maybe I could have got it all wrong and Norries are the ones who have done the copying - in which case I'll stand corrected. But somehow I doubt it

Those Starlo lures have been around for some time and basically are cheap copies coming out of some factory in China I'd imagine, I'd think that Starlo may have not knowingly started selling these and would have just choosen lures that that particular factory made but who knows???

Yeah, Starlo has done himself a real disservice in putting his name to rubbish like that. Word around town is he and bushy don't get along anymore which is a real shame, I'm sure they're both top blokes in their own right. Funny thing is everyone knows Starlo is casting sammy 65s around his local haunts and not the "pro range".

Speaking of Bushy whatever happened to that post about him passing away, I'm assuming it was a stupid hoax?

No comment on the lures mentioned but copying lure design, colours etc is rife, most copies are coming out of China & Russia and won't be long before they start copying some of the Iconic Aussie Collectables that seem to fetch very high prices on E-bay "if they haven't already"

I can only say for ZipBaits that most lures are made in Japan although there are a few models that they have made in China, but anything with the Mag-Drive is only made in Japan for the reason that the company is afraid that their molds & technology etc will be ripped off

I wouldn't worry too much, most good anglers will know that the cheap copies are never or rarely as good as the original. They will catch fish for sure, but they usually don't cast as well, swim as true and last as long.

If people would only buy the copy instead of the original you wouldn't have people parting with the better part of $40 for a popx when a R2S Bubble Pop 65 is a blatant rip off. Those who have used both will understand the subtle differences that make the popx the more versatile lure.

You should see the range of lures a camping store has here, ray's outdoors have a range under a name that escapes me and the whole lot are cheap copies, and they range from cod lures, vibes, small hard bodies, poppers pretty much everything.
They used too stock alot of name brands, but now it seems to be just this brand of copies

i get emails from lure manfucturers based in china on a daily basis (together with my nigerian emails)and every lure under the sun is made by them, one company had anthrax copies, griffon copies, oar-gee lures and a few other aussie brands. The photos in their catalogues were good enough to see that the quality is shocking. A few of the larger stores seem to be moving to their own inhouse brands of which the quality is also questionable. It all comes down to margins i guess

Simon if your buying them in Australia they're ZipBaits, there was one seller on E-bay at one stage might still be there who was selling "Zipbaits Lures" pretty easy to spot these are not ZipBaits because they're completely different.

Have heard of cheap rip offs of Zipbaits around which apparently don't have the Mag-drive but have fixed weights but haven't seen them myself, if anyone has a pic of one please post it up because I'm interested to see them.

Have heard of rip off Rapala lures coming out of Russia that are very hard to pick from the original but also haven't seem them in the flesh.

You name it it's copied in China even motorbikes Yamaha etc!

I know what your saying Chops, they look like absolute rubbish, might be "Outdoor Expedition"which would be made for DohDohDohDoh in china no doubt.I'd reckon any kid that buys that rubbish will shy away from lures for a lifetime
cheers nereus

hmmm wont let me edit... shouldn't have called them mojiko's as im not entirely sure thats the brand... but none the less... if you want rip-off River2Sea lures it seems Anaconda stock them...

As stated, one of the biggest issues here is probably that the franchise [chain type] stores are the one spreading this crap nation wide.
