Choose me a squid rod.

I've had a look at some squid rods and have decided that they would also make a great all-purpose inshore rod. The only thing is which rod to choose.
These are my preferred specs:

Fuji Low-rider guides.
8 - 9'6 ft
Two piece.
line rating around 4-10kg (10-20lb).
Split grip would be nice.
Available in W.A

Basically something which can cast well and has the grunt to pull Salmon, Squid, Rat Kingies, Tailor, Snapper etc.

You'll find nearly all Egi rods come with Low Rider guides setup. 4-10kg is abit steep....Think of it as an extra long bream rod. Ive got 2 and one running PE 0.6, the other PE 1.0. Both mine have split grips and are available locally.

Question is how much you want to spend?? Ive seen them up to $800!!

Oh and I should mention i'm looking at something not much more than $300.

When you say inshore my interpretation means inshore from a boat. Do you want a rod that long in a boat?

Well possibly a bit of boat work, but i'm mainly fishing from the shore. A 9ft rod is pretty essential when working from the shore but it should be managable from a boat.

Yeh Riceboy I've had a brief look at some of the Etuoh range. What does
PE 0.6 and PE 1.0 equate to? Oh and what Etuoh rods does your store stock?

PE 0.6 can be 6lb to 10lb
PE 1.0 can be 10lb to 18lb

atm there's only the Egi Force Type C available and its well under $300. That probably suit what you want to use it for....bit of everything light.

What reel you planning to use?

I'm thinking of an alternative rod now. Maybe when I get a bit more $$$ I can spend it on a specialist squid rod, right now I need something more multi-purpose.

Salmon would be the other main use for the rod so I really want something that can cast a decent weight and handle at least 8kg. Thinking of paring it up to a 3000/4000 Saros or Stradic.
Has anyone used the Daiwa Seajigger or know where I can get one in W.A? The 10ft model sounds the goods.

hmm....then forget about the egi rods as they're not designed to handle full grown salmon or casting 40gm+ lures. Reel wise too big as well....3000 Shimano max. I use 2500 Daiwa's. The egi rods are only up to 6kg max and about 25gm casting weight max...

with that size reel 4000+ your gona find it difficult to get the lure action right...just imagine twitching a bream lure with a 4000+ reel...same process.

Ive got one of the Etouh rods B type and its quite a versatile rod - correct me if i am wrong but its under 100g.

I have been forced to use these "egi" rods as i snapped my bream rod on a big skippy/sambo/ytk last week and i am pleasently surprised how good it is especially from shore.

echoe - i think its one or the other, i am assuming that you have a bream outfit already, there is nothing stopping you using that to catch squid.

i catch squid on my bream gear regularly so does the missus (pfugler trion and shimano t-curve)

I have the heaviest Sea Jigger and it is good but I use it for casting massive plastics and 85-100 gram slugs.

The lightest one the 315 would probably be perfect for your needs. They are very light and slim for what they are and feel more like an over grown bream rod than a surf rod.
