Make your own Environ-net!!

Hi Guys,
I just finished reading the Environnet post and noticed a few Blokes were wondering how to make one.
I once was a soldier and we used to carry a tool called a "sew all"
or a "sew stitcher". You can buy these tools from any decent camping store or Army surplus for around $20 bucks.
You would have all seen an environ net so you would all be familiar with it's construction.
If you go to a canvaser or a furniture upholstory shop you can buy canvas or nylon anything that is not going to get penetrated by a hook or remain wet for too long. The shop I went to the guy gave me what I needed for nothing as i needed bugger all and it was just scraps any way.
I used some fly wire for the base and a strip up the front and back which works Ok but if I made another one I would use Shade cloth.
I have been told that my net is easier to push through the water than an enviro net, which was a mighty complilent.
The thread in a sew all is heavy duty and waxed so that it doesn't rot easy by the way.
I will take some photo's and post them so you can all see, It isn't that hard and the time given back to throwing lures instead of untangling them is well worth the time put into making it.
If any one has any trouble send me a message I would be glad to assist.
Regards Geoff

Geoff,

Fair dinkum mate, I've just been to your web site those pictures of the net are fantastic.

It looks better than an environet!!! the water flow in your net would be down and a quicker flow=Less drag!

Can you explain two things to me please?

What exactly is the blue material made from? and what is the stuff you sewed it with and where do you think I could purchase it from (I mean what type of shop would stock it).

Thanks again......I won't be surprised if I see your net in a few boats...its that good

Cheers,

Jim

Where's Lake Conjola?

G'day mate,
I just went to a furniture upholsterer and told them what i wanted to do and if they would have something suitable.
The type off material I used is just plain old nylon, if you went to a canvasser they would have all soughts of different fabrics you could use. Remember bags, ute covers, tents, etc all start as a piece of fabric, just look at the fabric before you purchase it and consider what would happen if it was wet or a hook was thrown against it.
The posibilities are endless, go to your yellow pages and look up fabrics, upholsterers, canvass workers you will find something.
I will post a photo on my webpage of my SEW ALL or SEW STITCHER and perhaps if you print it off you can take it to a good camping/army surplus/canvass supplier and you can buy one.
They are the best piece of kit and have got me up and going again when my pack used to break.
I used plastic fly wire which is ok, the thing is if it breaks you can sew it back up with your sew-all.
Good luck
Geoff
