R2S Question

Hiya...

Just curious... I had a look at the split ring that you would tie your leader on my R2S and it had some serious points on. I was wonder if people remove this because it looks to me it could be a danger to your leader integrity.

...Cheers

Shane

Hi Shane, I used to remove all split rings on towing points because of this reason. Lately I've got a bit lazy and found that it hasn't really made much difference.

One thing I have noticed is that a couple of my lures came with split rings that were slightly opened and the leader managed to slip around and nearly wind itself out of the split ring. In that case I should definately have removed the split ring...stupid laziness

Removing it doesn't seem to make much difference to the action, provided you are using a loop knot to tie it on. With a clip, it may be better to leave the ring on as it will maximise the degree of freedom available to the lure and hopefuly effect the action less.

Cheers
James

Shane,

First of all, stop stealing my name!

And secondly, I thought the same thing. I thought about taking it off too but thought, we'll its probably there for a reason, and that extra 0.01 gram can help ya casting distance by 30cm.

I'd like to hear what other people do with theirs cos I know there's a lot of seasoned R2S users out there.

The REAL Shane.

G`day Shane
I take the split ring off all my lures (if possible). I haven`t had a problem with the R2S but I have lost a couple of lures and the fish that were connected to them because the split ring cut the leader. The lures swim fine without it as long as you use a loop knot.

Fake Shane...

I used my first ever R2S the other day and used a small clip that was on a lure that I found and removed the swivel from it so it was just a little tiny clip. I attached that to the split ring of the R2S and tied a standard knot onto the clip. Picked up 2 bream in about 10 casts with it around some pilons no worries...including a PB...36cm...

I think as long as it doesn't alter the swimming action then it doesn't matter.

The REAL Shane

R2S Colours

What colour R2S's are you all using with good results. I had a Gold one sent to me and have not had a chance to give it a swim yet. Is that a reasonable colour as well?

Robman,
If you have a look at the Walpole thread in the Forum, there is a good pic of some gold R2S that have been severely hammered. There are 3 golds variations I know of. All have caught fish.
