Question Hook Size For R2S lure?

Hi
I have just bought a R2S Static Shed 60Su and i found out that it has different sized hooks on it. Normally i would just leave the hooks on but the rust. Should i buy two hooks the same size or different size hooks?
What size hooks do you guys use on this lure?

Daniel

The Hooks on the R2S are very sharp, but also very weak!
I'd buy some Owner stingers, or Gama's. I'd say Size 10 or 12 is your best bet for the R2S. Quite a lot of guys take the front treble off on this lure as it helps lower the amount of weed your likely to pick up on the flats!
HTH

KKC,
Welcome to the site and thanks for dropping in and reading the guys concerns.

If I have any probs it's with 2 things really.

The first is that i find the paint on the static shed is VERY fragile and I've seen more than 1 get completely peeled after a single session. The colours are great, but I'd like to see it set better on the lure.

The second is the same as a number of the others. I usually change them to Owner Stinger in size 10. On top of thins I have a finder gauge treble on the front, but this is personal preference rather than a necessity.

HTH and thanks again.

Hi Bear and everybody,

Thanks for your constructive comments on R2S baits. I will pass them all back to our factory, and they will look into the matter and improve it.

Hi KKC,

Have been using the R2S Shed for over 12 months and it is a great lure. As Bear said the major problem with the lure is that the colour chips off very easily, and once it starts it just flakes off all obver the lure. This is OK as my partner then repaints them, and off we go again, but it would be better if the colour stayed on for more than 1 - 2 fish.

I have a queestion about the trebles. On some lures they have a larger treble on the back and on some the larger treble is on the middle. JP and I have had many discussions about which end of the lure should have the larger treble. Please let me know where the larger treble should be.

Thanks

Mim

After a lot of thought and input from bear and others I'm still no closer to deciding to remove the top treble, go smaller etc etc. I guess you have to make the call at the time.

One thing I reckon would be good if owner (or similar) and lure manufacturers got together and started putting decent trebles on to start with. ATM most are cheap and nasty and rust as soon as you get them within 20 ft of water.

Just a pipe dream I know as manufacturers have to keep costs down

Shad or Shed?

The R2S Static Shad is my number 1 breaming hard body lure. It is an awesome lure. Like everyone else, I replace the hooks with Owner Stinger trebles in either size 8 or 10.

I actually don't mind the paint coming off a bit as I think a wounded lure looks like a wounded fish. I have even tried scuffing the paint work up a bit when I have a new lure to give it that battered look.

One question though. I notice there is a Static Shad and a Static Shed lure. What is the difference? As far as I can see, it is just a different paint job (glossy as opposed to a matt finish) and some striping patterns on the shed lure.

Hey Daniel , just before Walpole I removed all the front trebles from all my lures . The reason for this is it eliminates the number of dud casts where your lure fouls the trebbles up and u have to retrieve and untangle them .

Ialso replaced the rear trebles with size 10 owners ( even on the bigger lures ) . I think they have no peir as far as sharpness goes , havent had them long enough to tell how long they last tho .

Hi KKC
i agree with the others. The paint on the R2S shad is very fragile. I bought a new static shed about 2 weeks ago and have only used it twice and nearly all the gold paint is gone. I only caught one flathead and one bream. Appart from the fragile paint the lures are awsome!!

I agree with everyone on the quality of the trebles and paint.. Just bought some more and I'm going to try covering mine with marine grade varnish. Anyone tried this?

Been having problem getting Gamma or Owner Trebles in SA, any suggestion where I can get it? I've been using VMC Red Chemical Sharpened Trebles as an alternative, so far so good.... comments?
