After many many years of bagging it out, I went searching for a reel the other day to suit the nitro vapour 6'6 I have. Only a few weeks back I purchased a Quantum PTi-A Tour Edition from the states and its a really nice reel however a tad heavy. Will have to find something to put it on or sell it. Back to the tackle shop and straight back to the daiwas that I have used for years now. But no joy in finding something that profiled down and felt right with the nitro. Do I dare? Um sir can I check out that sustain 1000 please? Attached on the rod... oooooooooo nice. I must admit I was never interested with the old model shimano reels feeling pretty average, but these new models are very smooth and work so well with this rod. The choice was made and the money was exchanged. Back home and the raiglon PE 0.6 spooled up and the rod wrap installed to make the grip nice and smooth. Its got to be one of the best outfits Ive felt for a long time.

Just need another couple of nitros and another couple of sustains to go on them and I will have a fully sick quiver again

My classic fishing buddy justr picked up a 1000 sustain FB a few months back for cheap as and loves it, so a few weeks back he got the new FD model and put it on a pfuleger supreme, it is a sexy combo thats for sure. They are sweet reels!

This is the FE model and is a darn sweet reel. I would have christened it today if the weather was better....

haha sorry fellas for the price i got this at it was too good. Plus those daiwas just didnt feel right on the rod.

I must admit I do like the daiwa reels but I think any smart breamer will get a reel that suits a rod, not choosing one that is a certain brand. A reel isnt the most important part of an outfit, its only job is to hold and retrieve line and serve as a brake when you set the drag right. Time will tell just how good the new model sustain really is.

yeah sorry FE Im a model behind, and I totally agree that the reel has to match the rod, and I dont just use shimano or daiwa I use both!

My 2000 Luvias sits well on my 7 foot Vapor, but I don't know if it would on the 6.6 foot..... whatever feels and works well for each individual i reckon.

good on you mate,
i use a bit of both and find them as good as each other,
very important to have the reel suit the rod.

Yeah my caldia kix 2004 feels nice on the 7ft vapour but nothing beats the sustain on the 6'6. Will wait til i get a 6 footer to see what that likes, im guessing the shimano as well.
