Stessl 4.35 Angler

Am looking at a 2002 Stessl 4.35 Angler as my next boat. Side console, 40 hp 2 stroke.

Am after anyones experiences with this hull. Will be used mainly in PPB and light offshore Barwon Heads/Collendina inshore reefs.

There is one review on Fishing Monthly's website, but doesnt seem to be a lot more info .

My first take is a pretty solid plate hull with wide beam. High enough sides that I can feel OK about taking my kids in the next few years, even with the front and rear casting platform. Big amount of fishable space. The hull looks like it will be pretty stable with those Tracker rails on it

Seems like a decent compromise between a bay and casting boat. 80% of my fishing is casting plastics these days.

Interested in any opinions/experiences you guys have

Hi Luke,
The boat looks good for what you are going to do with it.

A few comments though:

1. It is a heavy hull being a plate boat. You may need to consider a maximum HP rated motor for it. As you indicated, you are looking to buy a boat fitted with a 40 HP 2 stroke. The boat on the pics you have provided the link to was fitted with 50 HP unit. I reckon, the 40 HP would be underated. Also, will require more fuel as being underpowered.

2. Sides are high, good for bay / offshore. The downside is it will be more difficult to control it with electric when throwing plastics than the boat with lower sides (Hornet, Explorer, Mako's Estuary Tracker, etc). As you indicated 80 % of your fishing time is SP casting, therefore you may reconsider the hull you want to the hull you need.
