Boats
Hey guys,
Just a quick question, I am looking to buy a boat and the boats on here are fitted out so nicely with the casting platforms and stuff. My question is do you guys use your boats in the river? do any of you guys venture off into the ocean say the inshore reefs or maybe the sound (for those who in perth) given a good day, is it a bit hairy taking these boats out and standing with little to no support? And if you guys do take it out in the ocean what size is ur tinny |

Yep done some inshore work, mainly around Freo, but I make sure it isnt going to be stupidly rough out.
I have a Makocraft 520 Pro ET

I have a 4.2 stacer with a 40hp suzi and i take that up to wathumba/roonies on a decent day(about 45 -55km ) up frazer island dont get much swell around the bay but get quite a bit of short chop and the tinny handles it fine just a slow trip back

Ive taken my bass boat out to helby banks. Thats a fair trip out behind the ningaloo reef and to the north of tantabiddi ramp. 14km from memory. Taken my boat off margaret river a few times plus in geographe bay all the time. Even gone down the bottom of exmouth gulf in it too. The main thing to do is pick your day, have all the safety gear and be sensible.

Hey jorn, I do plenty of ocean work, after moving from brisbane 7 hour north to Rockhampton probably 90% is done in the ocean mainly inshore and off sure bommies and islands.
I only have a 3.75m with a 15hp four stroke on the back, full deck electric etc. Once I upgrade the motor to a 25hp I am looking at taking it out to the keppel islands on a good day. As long as you know your boat and are aware of the local conditions and keep an eye on them while your out, there is no reason why bass style boats can't fish the ocean very well. The biggest thing is if your buying a boat, buy one you'll have full confidence in hull and motor, and get to know what it can and can't do. Cheers Captain

pick the right weather conditions to suit you. if you ask people that have been in my boat they will tell you i only know one speed and that is WOT no matter what the conditions are like ![]() ![]() cheers

I have a 3.7m Bermuda and take out into the Sound (albeit close to shore) & around Safety Bay.
Like all things pick your days. I did know I bloke who would go out to Coventry reef in his tinnie in any weather....not my game. Always wondered about Webster Twinfishers, you never hear too much about them but they look extremely versitile for all sorts of work and conditions
