new colours

G'day all,
First time poster here. Thought I'd let you all know of this past weekends trial with the new scorpian colour. Ben Patrick (of Halco) gave my mate Bill Anderson a couple of the latest colour to try (they just hit the market). Bill and I went out on sunday to give them a fling (just up from Malloy Island- a short 10 minute drive from home).

It was a pretty average day weather-wise. The new colour worked a treat regardless. We reckon the 'remaining' bream down here have seen all the rest of the range of colours (and net mesh) and this one was different enough to create some interest. I've never been a huge fan of scorpians for fishing the river down here (don't dive deep quickly enough for our methods) but it certainly did the trick for us Sunday over our usual favourite Tilsans.

The fish Bill is holding- Bill had it on for 5 or 10 seconds then dropped it, he kept retrieving and the fish hit it again only to drop it. He recast into the same area and he hooked up again this time landing a nice fish around a kilo. Even the whiting got into the act We landed several fish to a bit over a kilo over the course of a couple of hours on a rainy blustery morning.
Regards,
Kev

Nice fish there Kev.

Wouldn't be up near an Island would it. Geoff and I had a little look around at Easter. Crystal clear water and some great looking snags.

Good to see the 52 working as well, might be good R2S country.

G'day Bear,
That fish came from somewhere from between Malloy and Alexadera Bridge. That leaves about 20 K's of fallen trees/rock ledges etc. etc to fish. Actually we did best not too far up from the island, in the ski zone (it was too cold and windy for the wake boat Nazi's). A little place I call Kev's creek (how's that for a hint).

Down here at Easter Eh! Should have stopped by for a beer.

Here's a pic of the whiting that to a shine to the scorpian. I reckon he was trying to mate with it.

Kev

Soooo much water to explore and soooo little time

Hey what a great fish, good to see the scorpion working on a whitting too, that's a great stretch of water to fish in , have you tried the river to seas down there yet? Nifty

Hey Nifty,
We've had some good results from some of the river2sea, mainly the predominantly gold coloured one. We had two, the first one was lost to a good-size fish, the other shows signs of many battles. The only other colour we had was predominantly white which didn't do much for us down here but I'm lead to believe work quite well up in Perth. I've only used those two patterns- from a look around here there seems to be a whole lot more colour available. We've got some coming down this week. The finish is quite remarkable on these lures (painted in a vacuum enclosure???) The rattle is nice and loud and the hooks initially pretty sharp. Pretty impresive piece of artilary.

Here's another pic from Sunday with the new scorpian

Cheers,
Kev

Kev! Been meaning to get in to contact with you... I went fishing in your boat winter last year? Was going to see why you hadn't entered any of the comps as they're the best way to learn anything, even if you've been doing it for a while. Most here will agree.
Ah well you're in the right spot now!

I meant to return that fishing trip, as I now have my boat kitted out with a 'Kota at the front.

Anyway, seeya round.

Hey Kev! How's things, good I hope, see you made the big move.

Mate I've tried to call you at home a few times without any luck. Could you give me a call in the office sometime on 92489946

You know what it's about. Time to get the fingers busy, I need some articles! The one you did for me last year was very good.

Cheers....

Hi ya Ira, Chris, Evan,
I've always been lurking around in the background here; you see I'm a pretty shy, reserved guy by nature. I'll make an effort to post a little bit more now.
Life always seems to get in the way of more important things (mainly fishing and tying flies) You know, work, mortgage, demanding wife, two young boys. I had enough and that's why we find ourselves down in Augusta now. Some have mentioned things like ' sea change' I just reckon it was my mid-life crisis ( and I'm not even forty yet.)

Ira, you have know idea how many articles I have started in the past. I'll get things in order and start trickling them up to you.I promise I'll give you a call. *G*

Chris, I've been following your exploits in the comps and with your evolving boat with interest. I really enjoyed the day I took you out (despite the wind).I've been hitting the soft plastics pretty hard. New Strudwick rod etc etc. In fact I took my two boys down to the town jetty tonight and I caught a 43 cm skippy on a gold atomic on my 1/2 kilo struddy with 4lb fireline. It made a pretty good account of itself. I had a few locals shaking there head as I was on my knees, rod half way in the water trying to get this out from around the pylons. Then they saw this gold piece of plastic hanging out of it's mouth
Then toss it back in the river to swim another day. They think I'm nuts.

Why haven't I entered the comps? No good reason really. Never had a lot of time to prefish, always semed to be working saturdays. Let's see how next season goes. Congrads on making the team Chris. I still have the same Phil Curran design Barra boat. Looking at maybe next year building Phil's new 17 /2 footer.

Evan, Molloy is a lovely little spot. If I stand on top of the roof I can see past the sticks and the bottom end of the island. I haven't spent a great deal of time up the Scott. We mainly hit it just for a change of scenery from fishing the main river. Fishing up there can be bit of a hit or miss affair; some days you can do no wrong, others you can't buy a fish. There's heaps of prime territory in the Blackwood, 20 K's worth above the island. What size did they go? It's in the tag book for the murdoch uni- somewhere around 38 cm and a kilo or so, just a guess.
