Nanga Bay - Shark Bay - Fishing Spots
Hi Guys
I will be heading up to Shark Bay for Easter and will be staying at Nanga Bay (Denham & Monkey Mia are fully booked). I would like some suggestions for fishing locations to try. I will be shore based and will be using plastics (3 and 4 inch) and lures (metal twisty, poppers and HB). I have a 7 ft 3-5kg rod and 2500 twinpower with 16lb braid. Leader is 12 and 20lb. Any suggestions for location and tackle to bring. Thanks for your help.

I could swear there was a fishing magazine about Shark Bay not long ago. I will have a look at home and contact you if I have a copy of it. Can't remember which mag though!
Good luck |

Desmond I stayed at Nanga Station years ago and fished off the beach there, dont know if you have a 4WD or not "otherwise it's a fair walk" but go left up the beach until you hit a fence that goes right down to the water, I had to stop after pulling 3 very large Tailor one after another, try around sunset. I was bait fishing but there were so many there I reckon they would have taken anything.

Thanks Carol.
Mark, yes i do have a 4WD (X-trail). Do i need to deflate the tyres to drive to the beach or is there a track to the beach? Thanks for the info

Desmond I may have been wrong on which direction up the beach think you go right ask the manager of Nanga Station and they'll point you in the direction of the fence that goes down to the water I think the fence encloses the wildlife sanctuary???
I went up the beach in a 1800 Subaru and did deflate the tyres, no tracks apart from where other vehicles have gone up the beach, defalte your tyres wouldn't be a bad idea, you might want to invest in a air compressor because from memory no air available at Nanga Stn. Mark |

the fence that mark refers to is to the right (north) of the Nanga Caravan park.
sandy tracks are (or were when i went ) very soft and you will probably need to deflate tyres to some degree. the fence is the vermin proof fence to keep out the foxes as they have re-introduced the native species to the northern end of that cape. have fun |

Reminded me of a time we went out to the penisular off Shark Bay (Perron i Think) anyway, driving a long and come along a bay that had a huge school of Tailor b/n 40cm-60cm.
Had an absolute ball on unweighted Mulies (prior to being addicted to Lures). The hole west side did well for us. Gregorys, South Gregorys all ring a bell but it was many moons ago, I think it was back when the wife used to talk to me (joking wife incase you are checking up on me)

Thanks Steve for the info.
I guess just some swivels, gang hooks, 20lb leader is all the tackle I need? I have two 8ft rods will this do? To catch some Tailor from the beach

basic shore fishing stuff will suffice, what I would recommend doing though is fish poppers and go the light gear.
More fun !!!!!
