what do you look for?

what do people look for when chosing the right rod for themselves?

am looking for a new rod and want to get an idea of what i should be looking for exactly. i have noticed that some people use quite stiff rods for hb's and some use very flexible rods for the same thing.. so was just wondering why people go a certain way.

one thing i am very big on is it must have cork grips.

I dont through large lures, so I like rod for flicking lighter lures.

My main complaint is the butt being so long that when I go to cast the butt gets caught in my sleeve. So I like shorter butts hence the 2 Blackdaimond FR I have are the short butt models. I also like putting my fore finger on the blank, I believe it gives better bite sensitivity.

Light, fast responsiveness (if that is the quick to snap back after cast/jig), good feel in the hand, and balanced. Always fit out the rod with the reel you are going to use to see how it feels.
