we had this discussion on another forum and some testing was done...end results..DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HARD BODY LURES IN CLOSED TRAYS IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT OR CLOSED CARS..the air inside will super heat, and either distort, warp, crack and geneally STUFF you lures !!!

After using your hardbody lures, wash them under the tap, dry them off by either shaking them or lightly rubbing them down without getting the trebles caught on the cloth

I place my Hard Bodies in a Plano box in my cupboard with my other soft plastics, lines, leaders and other various bits and pieces. The sun can ruin alot of fishing gear, so try to keep it out of the sun at all times... except for when you're fishing lol. I've had it happen to alot of my SX40's I just binned them. I learnt my lesson after loosing well over $200 of lures when I first started off. "But me be smart now, MMMMMMMM"

Dont expose your lures to excessive heat, as Hotrods mentioned some experiments were done by me to see the effects of heat on plastic lures.

1 Lure was put in the sun on a black background with outside temp around 36C no ill effects "I wouldn't recommend doing this.

1 Lure was put under my car seat in a open lure box "car was very hot" no ill effects.

1 lure was put in a lure box in the sun in my car and it warped.

We looked into this and contacted our supplier and were told that 60-70C is critical and they'll melt this especially applies to the small "Trout" type lures because they have been specifically designed with thin walls to increase action and sensitivity also the larger the weight in the lure the faster it'll heat up.

So to sum up dont leave your lures in the sun in closed lure boxes open your boxes if you really need to leave them in the sun, dont leave lures in closed boxes in tacklebags in the sun, dnt leave lures in cars on hot days and if you must try and put them under your seat with lure box lids open, best to keep them in shade with lure box lids open on hot days.

In addition to this you should not slap your lures against water to remove weed, the lure travels at such a velocity the surface of the water becomes as hard as concrete which may crack you lure.

Mark
