Cool Wacko's "Bream machine"

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd post a little write up about my boat, which turned into a D.I.Y job to better suit my needs.

I bought the boat as a basic hull fitted with a 30HP Merc.
From day one, I knew I wanted to build decks/storage etc, so I already had 'plans' floating around in my head.

Firstly, I made a budget of $1200 for the fit-out and tried to stick by that in regards to materials bought.

Next step was buying all the gear This included:

* Form Ply- 17mm thick (Floors and decks)
* Marine carpet (Roughly 3mtrs)
* Stainless steel screws (Numerous sizes and gauge)
* Stainless steel hinges (For the hatches)
* Folding swivel seats x2
* Bracket clamps x2 (To mount the seats onto)
* Aluminium angle (For deck support and edges on decks)
* Contact adhesive (Roughly 2 litres used)
* Paint (International "Brightside" marine paint)
* Odds and bits (sandpaper, paint brushes, etc, etc)

After I had everything, I got hard into it!

Hope these pics explain it a little better.

P-S: The boat is a "Ramco" (New Zealand built and TOUGH!)
It's 4.5mtrs length with a beam of around 1.8mtrs.
2mm sides and 3mm bottom aluminium.
It goes great with the Mercury 30HP.

After I cut the decks and floors, I carpeted the lot and built the hatches, fitted the seats and did some finishing touches.

And here she is with the new paint job.

Looks OK but I might sand a layer back and spray it some other time.

Thanks Nifty

Yeah I pretty much kept to budget if you don't include all the tools I bought! I ended up buying a new Drill, Drill bits, Jig-saw, Screwdrivers, hacksaw etc etc!

Looks nice, Wacko.

Good job! Did you spray paint the hull? How many coats and what was the undercoat?

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks everyone!

Alex, I brushed on the paint. Looks OK for a brush job but you certainly get a better result if it's sprayed on. After the Sydney Bream comp, I might sand back a layer and spray on a coat.

I used Vinyl etch Primer to start off with, then Yacht primer (2 coats) , then "Prekote" (White undercoat- another 2 coats), then the Colour application (3 coats).

Wacko.
