Surface Poppers!

Hey everyone.
Latley all my fishing has been done with plastics, I've been doing pretty well. But it's starting to warm up and I've lost my interest in most Hard Body lures. I want to try something new, Poppers!
I've used poppers before but with no real experiance and intel on them I've done fairly poorly. I've caught them but it's been testing lol.

I'd like to know how you guys go with poppers and what you can share with me. I've got plenty to choose from. R2S Buggi Pops, R2S Bubble Pops and plenty of Bassbody poppers and a few others.

Thanks for your time, Nugget.

I haven't used a lot of poppers....

The best surface lure i have used is a Smiths TOWADI. Black bream like these a lot!

Ive done a bit of fishing for Yellow-Fin bream with surface lures on the Gold Coast and have had a lot of succes with the towadis.
They arent a popper but still a very good surface lure.

I havent used many poppers but have done ok fishing with Surecatch poppers. Most poppers in the 3-5cm range will all do the same thing. Just gotta work out a retrieve that the bream will take.

The "Smiths TOWADI" surface lures, how do you fish them?

When I fish my surface poppers I vary the retrieve with just a slow roll to small splashes and bits and pieces between.

How do you do this??

Nugget!

Towadis use a twitch twitch twitch retrieve, each twitch causes it to dart to the opposite side to where it went before. i usually do like....6 twitched while winding in steadily, then pause for a second or two, then maybe 3-5 twitches, another pause...etc etc.

They seem to be doing you some justice. Do surface lures tend to hook the Bream just under the bottom lip of the Bream like shown in your first picture?

I like the look of that Towadi, it's got a nice colour too it.

Nugget.

They will usually hook them inside theie mouth.

Bream love these things but they aren't real good at eating them

Its fun watching them try to suck it in but you will miss quite a few.

Yeah, that's one of the key things that's making me want to increase on my surface fishing. The strikes. I think on a nice calm morning where there is no ripples or any type of movment and you get a strike it would be AWSOME!
