Question Help with Max Transom Weight

Hey guys
i've got a 385 explorer with a yammy 2 stroke on it at the moment. Now the max transom weight is 73kg. i'm lookin at a yammy 25hp 4 stroke and it's weight is 72kg. i know that the weight of the motor is less than the max transom weight but people have told me that i shoudlnt put the 4 stroke on unless i get the transom reinforced :S:S.
can anyone help me out here?

well if you stay withing the manufacturer's recomended range you should be fine. its when you exceed these limits you can get problems with insurance and warrantys.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the max hp for the 385 explorer is 20hp, so you are best to check with your insurer before you go putting on bigger donks than what they are rated for.
Check your plate on the boat, that should tell you what max hp the hull is rated for or speak to your quintrex dealer.

The max hp on a 385 ET is 25. Luke (angler 3.55) has a 25 hp Yama 4 stroke on his 385 ET and he fishes the comps thus his boat must be fully insured. It's actually for sale in the Classifieds on here. Why don't you ask him. Don't know what state you're from but I find Luke to be always helpful.

Good luck.
