Craig, here's a pic from the stacer site. Nice looking boat. Assa, haven't seen that particular boat, but the hotted up open dingy style to which that boat belongs is a great compromise. You can do so many things in that style of boat. It is large enough and seaworthy enough to fish inshore reefs one day, and small enough to get up bream creeks the next. Enjoy it.
As for an electric, the main thing you will need to watch out for is power and shaft length. Most electrics are designed for boats that are low to the water. For a boat like yours you'd probably need to go for a 54" (if buying minn kota) or above. Also, the high sides and length of the boat means that wind will be a problem so you will need plenty of power to control it. I imagine 65lb thrust would be the absolute minimum. Go higher if you can. You can never have too much power!!. Cheers

yeh the nomad i got was a slight compromise as i plan to take my little one out in it when she grows up(only 4.5 months at the moment)it seemed a little more suited to little ones than a hornet.and i also do a lot of impoundment fishing for murraycod and was sick of copping a hiding when it rough up.i got the 455mp nomad which comes with side console pod on the back for stability 65l underfloor fuel tank all gauges fuel, trim etc.i picked the travel cover up for it today.overall very pls with it .am going for a lowrance x91 any thoughts on this model would be appreciated and as jimi said as big a bow mount as possible ,it may have to wait a while though.

Yep looks good Azza. Unfortunately my only experience with Stacer boats hase been in Jimi's Catcher RV. If it's anything like that it'll be sweet.
Got the thumbs up from Samurai too Post some photos when its fitted out, not much better than rubber necking at OP boats. C. |

Actually Craig, mine is a stessco (why do so many boat companies names sound the same??). Similar sort of thing though, just smaller.

Dantheman your right about the Quintrex/Stacer being built by the same people. I have been told that they are even made in the same shed (a bloody big one I guess).
I was going to buy a 4.0 Stacer Bass but then I got a 4.0m Quinnie Hornet for a better price so it was the Quinnie I went for. Cheers Craig C |

Dan,
I love it!!! Nah, really I think it suits my needs/wants really well. I only have a 1.6l 4cyl Mazda so if i bought a bigger boat I would need a bigger car and fat chance of that happening unless Toyota wants to sponser me ( fat chance of that, they already have Mad Phil signed up). The only beefs I have is with the max hp rating for it (30hp not enough) and that it planes just over 8 knots (under 8 would be better) but apart from that it does the job well. Craig C |

Craig, I don't think you would find many boats of your size that would plane at under 8 knots. They would have to have a totally flat bottom or be very lightly loaded to manage that.
Unfortunately, it's a bizzare fact of life that the government has decided to make the speed limits on most of our rivers 8 knots. Just the speed at which most boats are putting out the maxium wash and operating the most inefficiently....

I've always thought that was a bit silly, looks like the exact sort of speed to cause maximum bank erosion. The smaller boat I used to own when I lived in East Gippsland went very nose high at those sort of speeds and the rear of the hull made a big trough and wake.
Sometimes I think we'd all be better off with displacement hulls and lower power, sure it would take longer to get places, but gee it'd be a lot quieter and more relaxed, plus you wouldn't have to stress about speed restrictions, etc. Something like the old 'couta boats that used to work on Port Phillip Bay, or a nice, small, pulling boat with a bracket for the outboard. http://www.raysdreamboats.com/wherry.html http://www.flounderbay.com/boatkits.htm#coswherry Not sure about where to put the casting decks though ;-) Nor who's going to do all the maintenance...
