Sol v Twin Power

Gday All,

I am awaiting delivery of my 6'6" 1-3kg rod and am thinking about what reel I will match it up with.

It will be for small plastics and maybe the odd baby vibe if things get desperate!

I'm looking at either the Daiwa Sol 2000 or the Shimano TwinPower 1000 (both in the $290 price bracket) - obviously when I get the rod I will take it into the tackle shop and see how each feels but in the meantime can anyone give me their opinions (qualified or unqualified!) on which way to go.

I was thinking of putting on 2 lb braid (not sure on brand yet - reccomendations welcome) - any thoughts on going this low??

Cheers

I just upgraded one of my reels to a 1000 twinpower and I think it was a good buy. Nice, light, so on and so forth. Never touched a Sol so cant talk on that front, but I am saving up the $'s for another twinpower

i have recently uograded one of my reels to a Sol 2000, and it is great. a feature that i really like about it is the amazing drag capacity, which helps with mulloway and so on.

i also like daiwas line lay system, it really knocks back wind knots and inproves casting distance.

i have fished with a twinpower aswell, and have found that they seem to create more knots as compared to the sol. i am also a very big fan of Daiwas airbail, i wont buy reels unless this is one of thier featuers

both great little reels, but as i am currently in possesion of a sol, i would reccomend it

Yeah ive got 3 sol's at present and would happily go down the same path again for the money.
I've never heard anyone bash the twinpowers though and guys I know that use them love'em.
Check out both when you get the new stick and go with what you like the feel of better.

Not a problem Shane.
Though after my totally pathetic performance at Walpole I don't think any NB deserves to draw me as their partner.

Brands aside personally I don't go above 1500 for a 1-3kg rod. I find any bigger and it starts to get a bit butt heavy.

I've got a couple of TP's and I reckon they are great. Good bang for your buck. Never used a Sol so I can't comment. Simmsy can I borrow your other one?

Sol 2000.

P.S. Either Platypus Super Braid or Fireline Crystal are good in 2lb.

I spent all arvo skulldragging 40cm sambos out from under a jetty with my twin power today, gunna whip out the 15lb braid on it for tomorrow, see if i can get any REAL sambos (seen some scary sized ones around! up to 1m long!). Flip a coin IMO, both terrific reels.

My understanding is that the TP is slightly better than sustains
and the sol and TP also come with s/spool.
One of the shimano fans will correct me if im wrong.
