Luckly people are coming up with better ways to dispense leader.

The days of purchasing leader in hanks was a nightmare in a tackle box

Equipment would become tangled in the hanks. What a mess and a waste.

Companies like Ande produced a spool that distributed leader that enabled it to be carried in a smaller tackle box without unwinding into a mess.

Penn10x does it well. Black magic have a good concept but not perfect.
I purchase Penn10X purely for its storage properties where the leader has slightly less relevance in much bigger diameters.

It seems the smaller fluorocarbon spools haven't yet achieved that. The split in the side of the spool works ok but still line seems to be dragged out of the spool by anything that catches the line.

Oh for something as effective as Penns dispenser. I might have to find some lacky bands that fit the spools to prevent the line being disturbed in small tackle bags etc.

Really having a better turnkey solution for the smaller fluorocarbon spools would be much better.

Something like this that can be doublesided taped onto your lure box or onto your boat somewhere would be OK. I wonder how it refills ?

Having simply a spool such as the larger line class products allows the spool to be placed in a tackle bag, tackle box, jacket depending on what sought of fishing Im doing.

I might see if I can get some wide elastic bands the width of the spool but it would be great to see the spools improved.

Fulling Mill leader comes with a material band around the spool. You can leave it on and still pull line off and then cut the length you need. Bit better than rubber bands as line seems to get caught in the rubber unless you take the band off and then put back on after use.

I noticed with rubber bands to that after a while in the heat the bands go off and stick to the leader, not sure how good thats for such thin leaders like 3-4lb.

You could make these bands yourself, go to a store like Spot Light (sewing shop) and you can buy lengths of it, cut it and sew the ends together.

Oh another thing, Snowbee make a leader wallet.
They fit 4 rolls of Fulling Mill leader into it and has a velcro tab to keep it shut. You can leave a tag of line hanging out and just pull out what you need. No need to take out the spools when you need more.

I have been using this system for the last 3 years and have found nothing better yet.............

Instead of rubber bands you can use girls' hair elastics. They last longer and with the fabric around them tend to "work" better in pulling off line.... and they come in lots of weally pwetty colours

Are you suggesting I put scrunchies on my leader spools?

If the rubber bands are "wide" enough to cover the spool then lure hooks etc dont catch nor does the spool start to release line or pop out of the crack some companies allow to slip the tag end into.

Point taken about the rubber band deteriorating. Haven't had that happen unless its been out in the sun or sitting for a long long time.

I usually only take one or 2 spool grades for a spin on the flats. Cutting down the gear makes it easier when fishing from shore.

The ease of storage of the larger spools that self contained covers really stands out with out the tangled mess ever again when lumping a few items in a bag to fish off the rocks for snapper etc or in a tackle bag to jump out for a quick salmon fish in a small boat.
