Bear you might be able to help me with this one ?
I have been looking at buing a Canon Powershot G3. In Australia they seem to retail for about $1600.00. I can get one from U.S.A. including freight for $1020.00 AUD Apart from warranty problems what are the negatives to buying cameras overseas. eg; are they the same fittings and 240 volt plugs as we use in Australia.

Tony,
I would contact Canon here in Perth and see if they will honour the warranty. I most cases you will find that they do. Make sure the cables you get are for Australia. If not you'll have to look at the adaptor which isn't cheap for long term use. You may find that you can get the Aussie wired charger, worth a try. From there you really shouldn't have any problems, except for duties when the camera is brought back into the country. Not sure how much it will be, but check it out. Is that the 4 mega-pixel or the 5 mega-pixel G3??

The one I was looking at is the 4 Mega-pixel.
Not sure on the duty costs but with $700.00 price diffrence I think it might be worth checking out. Thanks for your help.

The only reason I ask Tony, is that there is an offer in town at the moment for the S50 for just over $1300.
The S50 is the model up from mine and is a 5 mega-pixel camera. Worth a look.

Tony,
There is another mob in Balcatta called DMA that have a web site with price lists. It's the same place I go Dale's camera. You can buy retail from them and pick it up from the store. The web site is: https://e5.eon.net.au/E5.cgi?ST=dma&...meras&Sort=Sub If you have any problems with the link try www.dma.net.au and look for cameras. HTH.

Tony,
If you'll decide to buy from the US, their mains power, I think, is 115 VAC, 60 Hz. So, be careful, you may have problems with the charger here. Alex |
