Question Daiwai Sol or Airity?

Gday

Just curious as to what will be worth me purchasing.

The sol 2000 is around $279 and then you have the Airity in 1500 or 2500 with a fairly decent price crash in recent months....what will be the one more worth my buck? will it be worth the extra 100 or so dollars for the airity...or is the sol going to deliver the goods?

Ta

Brad

First of all i confess to not using a daiwa in over 4 yrs. But outa the 2 the airity would be my pick but alot of breamers are using the sol and have been very impressed by them. So you could go the Sol and then have the extra cash to buy line and lures or something along those lines. Also put them both on your rod and see which one feels more comfortable. Which ever reel you go for you'll get your moneys worth.

You get a spare spool with the Sol if that's important to you.

do you shorebash or fish from a boat?
personally i dont like using reels like airitys, luvias etc when shorebashing because they are constructed of magnesium and if you scratch through the protective coating you can have problems with rust.
if fishing from a boat i think they are fine because they are alot less likely to get scratched.
for me if shorebashing it would be the sol and if fishing from a boat i would go with the superior reel being the airity
hope this helps, you will be happy with either im sure.
cheers

Value for money, and a great performer - SOL.

I'm currently using both, but I can't see a huge difference between the two, that warrants the extra money. As already said, spend that difference on some braid, leader and lures.

Cheers

Majority will be shore bashing

AS already stated by the majority of replies....value for money is deffinately the sol and the magnesium does rust if scratched or not looked after correctly so in both cases there i would rather the sol anway.

Just an an extra kicker for the sol it comes with a spare spool for a different lb class of line

The Sol wins

Thanks you!

Airity and Luvias are made from a magnesium alloy, and unless one of the metals its alloyed with is iron, it ain't gunna rust. It might oxidise slightly, but that will only be a minor aesthetic issue. The Sol I believe has an aluminium alloy body, the same rule applies. Both are painted or anodised (not sure which) so they will both scratch and oxidise.

Thats the metalurgy lesson over, go back to selecting a reel based on its other merits

As Dell pointed out.. I have both reels
I love both these reels and you cant go wrong with either one.
I find the airity is not as smooth as the Sol (not saying it isnt smooth), but it makes up for that in its ultra light weight. Its a very light reel, has a very smooth drag.
The Sol is slightly heavier but is smoother which is mainly because it is a newer reel.

To me the major difference between the two is the weight. So your probably best to try them on your rod and see which feels better.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I've used both and both are great, lightweight reels and both are smooth. but as for value for money you can't go past the Sol and the spare spool you get with it.
